Lake sounds unisex as far as I'm concerned; I'd err slightly towards using it on a male. It's not bad; I would use it before I used Laken. I'd feel a bit unlike myself, addressing my own child as Lake, so it's not my style. Lake is just a modern wordname with a nice image to me; Laken to me is weird nonsense like Jaden, although not so weird I couldn't get used to it. Lakelyn sounds to me like an alteration of Lachlan, but I guess it doesn't have to be. I like Lachlan too. - chazda

oh, and.. the poll.. my answerI'd use River or Brook for a boy, Brooke or Lynn for a girl. Sorry I can't think of anything more creative. Bay (m), maybe? - chazda

an alteration of Lachlan...I agree. When I hear Lakelyn my first thought was the parent saw Lachlan, misused and mispronounced it.
