I actually say it EM-il. I guess it's pretty similar to your first pronunciation, since the two sounds kind of run together anyways.

I know it's a boy's name, but there is an old lady at my church named Emil, and she pronounces it the first way. BtN's Database says it's masculine, and pronounced the second way. I still think of it as masculine, but I tend to say it the first way.

I've always heard it pronounced eh-MEEL. That's how I would say it. I don't really like Eh-mil too much, I'm afraid.
