[Opinions] Emery
I've been doing a little research on the name Emery. I've always liked it, but was put off by its surname status (I dislike surnames as first names, with only a couple of exceptions).
So I was happy to learn it was originally a first name - a medieval one, the English form of Emerica / Emericus, the Latin form of Emeric. Both male and female. So, WDYT of these combinations?Girls
Emery Juliet
Emery Justina
Emery Madoline (MA-duh-lyne)Boys
Emery Lonan (LOE-nan
Emery Stephan (STEFF-an)

I have a love/hate relationship with Emery. Some days I think, "what a nice name," and other days, "blech." Today is more of a blech day. I think it works for both sexes though I like the sound of Emerson better for boys. I think Emery Juliet, Emery Justine (sound better than Emery Justina imo) and Emery Lonann are all nice.

Emery is nice, but I like it only for a boy. Emery Lonan is a great combo! ~ Arcadia

I think if you put Emery on a girl she would always have to say: no not Emily, Emery! The difference between the L and R are already small, so that'll be a problem!Like it on a boy though..

I only like the name Emery for a boy. It does not suit a girl.

I don't know if it exists where you live, but Emery paper is a type of sandpaper, famous as the emery board (used for filing fingernails). I can't help but think of that when I hear the name Emery; it's really the only place I've ever heard the name at all.Still, I guess I like the sound of it. It's neat. Has all the stuff I like.It seems unisex to me; with the surname & Emeric association I first think that it's male, but the extreme similarity of sound to Emily makes it suitable for a girl, maybe more so. I guess if Emily is common it could be a bit odd.. with people mistaking it for Emily. Anyway. I give it my rubberstamp of approval. Unisex. :-)Emery Juliet : great combo
Emery Justina: better combo because Justina is less generic and somehow has more 'depth', for lack of a better word - Emery needs that
Emery Madoline: sounds great, not as good as JustinaEmery Lonan: okay.. doesn't thrill me
Emery Stephan: I like this alright but I think it wants at least one richer / deeper vowel (I forget what you call the vowels made in the back of your mouth as opposed to the front) to give it some weight

I love Emery, but ONLY for a boy, girls are stealing other boy "Emm" names

Hmmm ... It isn't really stealing - As I said, Emery is a genuine unisex name, a medieval one
