WDYT of Ellery for a girl? I heard it the other day, and I'm not quite sure what I think of it.

No, it sounds masculine to me. There are plenty of other truly female El- names to choose from (Elaine, Ellen, Elettra, Eliana, Elvira, etc), so imo there's no need to take another name from the guys.Miranda

I don't generally like surnames as first names, but as Ellery doesn't sound like one, I like it. I prefer its sound on a boy, but it's fine on either gender methinks.
