[Opinions] Emerson
I'm really like Emerson right now, on both boy and *guiltily* girl. In fact, I'm really liking it for a girl despite the "son" part of the name. What are your opinions? I think maybe it's because I havent found a boy Emerson combo I like yet. Any suggestions? WDYT of Emerson Patricia?

I think Emerson on a boy is gorgeous but I can't stand it on a girl. C'mon, it hhas"-son" in it!

Emerson is not a favorite of mine either way. I think it sounds old and out of date on a boy, like the parents are trying to sound itellectual and sensitive by naming their son after a writer. On a girl (and yes girl is my first thought since all the other Em- names are girl names (and popular names so they are heard all the time)), the parents are being trendy and trying to be different. THey get the unisex name with the cute feminine nickname. Also the time I have heard Emerosn as a first name is Teri Hatcher's daughter, which I hated the first time I heard it. But with all the Emily's and Emma's and Emmy's, it has grown on me.

Emerson is just so "NO!" for a girl for me. It means "son of Emery", and Emery itself is a male name (despite what the tryndeez often say). And besides that, Emerson is just so tryndee and "trying too hard"...On a boy, it's still trendy, but it doesn't strike me as tryndee because it has some Victorian Era charm to me.I think simple, 100% (or near to it) masculine, non 3-syllable-or-longer middle names would suit Emerson as a fn:
Emerson John
Emerson Jacob
Emerson Caleb
Emerson Brock (too harsh?)
Emerson Philip
Emerson Michael
Emerson Casper
Emerson Victor
Emerson Cade
Emerson Ralph (too corny?)
Emerson Ray
Emerson Jay
Emerson Frank
Emerson Jude
Emerson Louis / Lewis
Emerson James
Emerson Wilfred
Emerson Waldo (too corny?)
Emerson Walter
Emerson Lane
Emerson Blaine / Blane
Emerson Blake
Emerson Blaise
Emerson Blaze
Emerson Paul

Eep!I'm currently in Poetry Analysis Hell in my English course, but William Blake completely slipped my mind. D'oh! :-p

Poetry Analysis Hell? How is that possible? I love analysing poetry! PM me if you want to chat about it. I enjoy any opportunity to chat about poetry, but I'll leave it at that before I get too far OT.I love the name Blake for William Blake, but it caught on for some reason recently. I think it's getting too popular, unfortunately.

It's just so *yawn* on a girl...You know...the next step from "we liked Emily on a girl, but it was so common, so we chose Emma." This is the choice now that Emma has gotten common and I think it's silly on a girl. It's Ralph Waldo Emerson, Radcliff Emerson (have to read the Amelia Peabody novels for that...)...it's just not GIRL!

I was about 15 (about 6 years ago) when I thought of Emerson as a first name, and I have NEVER thought of using it for a boy. I presonally see a girl (at any age) with the name Emerson. If she feels its too masculine for her, there are plenty of feminine nn (anything starting with Em-).Emerson Patricia is nice, but balanced (I like combos that has one short name with a longer name)

I like Emerson for both genders, too. I prefer on a boy! Oddly enough I hate "son" names on girls. I just can't help but like Emerson n a girl somewhat, more as a GP.I haven't found a girl combo I like, but my boy combo is Emerson Bree.

Like Patricia, dislike Emerson on a girl. This is one of those names I could like for the author, but you just know that half the parents out there, when asked if they named their (blargh) daughters for him, would go, "Emerson who?" It's just too trendy/cutesy.On a boy, I think it could do justice to honoring him, though.
