[Facts] Re: Off Topic -- Winter Solstice celebrations, anyone?

I'm in the ET zone, but didn't see this message until nearly 10 hours too late. At 8:37 AM our sky was leaden-gray, emitting vast quantities of snowflakes seemingly as big as dinner plates (before wine-crazed Greeks get hold of them).
Does this mean the Winter Solstice didn't actually happen here, since there was no sun? On the other hand, our whole office was frolicing in celebration at that time, because the boss had just driven away at 8:30 until after New Years...
