[Facts] Does anyone know what this name means??
I've read the name Madigan (Maddie) in a couple of books and fell in love instantly. Has anyone ever heard of this name and what does it mean?
Thanks, Jenn

It also means descendent of the keeper of the hounds. It was first given to Madaghain (d.1008), Ireland, of the tribe Ui Maine, who can be traced back (because of the etymology of the name O Madagain funny enough) to pre-Gaelic Ireland, so they were in Ireland before the Gael came (a few thousand years ago)!

Well, actually, it also means descendent of the keeper of the hounds (which is much more rock'n'roll, and pretty much what I tell everyone)It was first given to Madaghain (d.1008), of the tribe Hy-Many, from Ireland. It's etymology suggests that it is pre-Gaelic, one of a small number of names that can be traced to the people that inhabited Ireland before the Gael (a very long time ago)
