[Facts] Sian: help!
Replies
um i really dont care but sian if you must know
Cyan...
nanaea's right--Sian is pronounced "shan." Pronouncing it si-ann would be like naming a child Juanita and pronouncing it "JAW nit-a."
In the top 1000, there is a name, Cyan (like the color) that pops up. It's also in other spellings like Cyanne, Sianne, Cyann etc. Why not go with one of these variations?

hi i just wanted to add. this is the first website that i haved found with the name cyan i have a little girl back in 2002 and named her Cyan. My husband came up with it but he did not come up with it from the color he actually came up with it from a comic book Spawn (the hell spawn) it is his daughter. We joke that we named out daughter after the daughter of hell spawn. the only thing we have ran into there is no info. on what her name means. well now i know.
Norah, thanks for your help. Where did you see these variations listed?
Here, Stephanie...
Go to this page of Norah's website, which she shares with Katie D.:

Scroll down the "Rank" column until you hit the #803s, or simply do a Control +F search on the name "Cyan".

Thanks everybody. We have now decided to admit defeat and to name our daughter Cyan to avoid confusion and arguments (I actually prefer it). I probably got confused and can see that everybody is certain that Sian is pronounced Shan... (I'm French living in Britain and didn't know this name before coming to Britain 7 years ago and probably got the wrong impression.)
Thanks again for all your help.

Norah, I can see Cian on the list but that's a masculine name. Does Cyan actually exist as a female name?
Thanks for your help anyway, I will definitely consider one of these different spellings!

I am 10 years old,I live in Belgium and my name is Cyan.
Yes you can use Cyan as a female version. You can also change it a little:
Cyanne
Cyann
Just a couple others ways!

Sorry, Stephanie , but the Welsh name of Sian is pronounced "Shan ". If you name your child "Sian " and then go pronouncing it "Si-Ann", Welsh people may look at you oddly. It would be kinda like pronouncing the boy's name "Sean " as "Seh-an", which would be dumb, as I'm sure you must realize.
If you're really dead set on giving your child a name that sounds somewhat like "Si-Ann", then perhaps you ought to consider another name entirely. How about "Sienna"?
Or, you could give your child a hippy name -- like Sea-Anne! (Just kidding, please don't even consider that. :)

Thanks for your reply. However, I am sure that both pronounciations are correct as we know 2 people who are called Sian and pronounce their name as Si- Ann. I was just wondering about the different spellings. I think Sian as Si- Ann has a little hat (^)on the i or the a or a " on the i or the a...
My names is Sian with a ^ on the a.
That one is pronounced `sharn` -- it`s the welsh one.
Never si-ann.
