[Opinions] WDYTO...Reilly
I know there are a few of you who hate it when names are spelled differently than the original spelling...I am not to much of fan of it myself :c) Well, my cousin is having a little girl any day now and she decided to name her Reilly (Riley). WDYT? How would you rate it against all the other kree8tyve spellings? 10 being worst, 1 being one of the better, next to the original.

I usually do not like kree8iv names, or names that are overly modern or trendy. However, I do happen to know a little girl named Reilly (spelled this way) and it suits her so well. I like it.

Reilly is a kr8tv spelling?Reilly is a pretty legitimate form I always thought, but then I consider Riley or Reilly to be surnames only not fit for first name consumption, so . . .

I didn't know that this was a legit spelling until some of the posts here...But even still, it doesn't look like Riley to me, but Ray-lee.

Heh. I'd like it, and the spelling, if not for Bill O'Reilly *shudder*

As far as creative spellings go, it's not horrifying, butI only like it for a boy. In fact, I really dislike it for a girl .

I actually like Reilly for a girl. I prefer this spelling.

I like the spelling Reilly-the only other one I like is Riley. I hate all the Rylee/Rylie stuff. It's not my favorite name at all but it's okay.

1, its way better than a Rhyellie!

Reilly is just as original as Riley, and it's just as much a surname, and almost as painfully butch and aggressive sounding on a girl.If you're really that in love with that name for a girl, I'd say definitely use the spelling Reilly instead of Riley. But I don't really like it. Edited to add: I think the reason why this name is so butch and aggressive sounding is not only that it's a surname, but that it contains the word 'rile' which has unpleasant connotations. People's impressions of names that have sound-cousins in the language really can be affected by them, I believe. - chazda

Gosh... I'm sorry.I didn't read you carefully.I read some of the vitriolic replies below, and reacted to that instead. To my shame. Apologies!Anyway my gist was. Reilly better than Riley by a large margin. The best of all spellings. - chazda

Riley is a great name, but Reilly is a turn off. I dont like the spelling. Riley is actually the one name I dont care for other spellings.

I love it when someone has to put the original spelling in parenthesis...that is reason enough to not use it.I like Riley for a boy and everything else is a last name to me.

To me Riley is a boy name, and Reilly a surname.

This Name Makes me MADOr maybe its the fact I just ran too much. Anyways, I barf everytime I see the name Reilly/Riley/Rileigh on a girl. It NOT a girls name. For all those parents who want their little girls to be good as the guys. GIving a girl a guys name is SCREAMING that girls aren't good enough. There are TEN THOUSAND little Reilly girls running around everywhere. I hate the Name on a girl, regardless of the spellings.Lala

Tritto. Except...Reilly isn't a kre8iv spelling. It a legit spelling, as far as surnames are concerned.Doesn't detract a whit from your objections to Riley / Reilly on a girl though.Miranda

I agree with you!That Reilly/Riley, etc. is a boy's name.
