I hate to keep harping on the medical angle, but "Meckel's diverticulum" is the name of a loop of bowel some people have that can cause an appendicitis-like syndrome.
For that reason I wouldn't use it for any of my kids... :)

I have heard of this name, and it is a form of Michael, I think it comes from the German pronunciation of that name. I remember it because when our German teacher in high school told us she was going on maternity leave, we asked her if she'd thought of any names and she said that if the baby was a boy she was going to call him Michael but she pronounced it like that. It's a cool name though, I really like it.
