Thoughts on Johan
I would like some honest feedback on the name Johan. My husband, Jonathan and I are thinking of using it for our fourth son, due in Feb. We've kind of run out of ideas with boys names that we agree on. We both like Johan, but are not certain how easily the name is pronounced.

I appreciate everyone's opinions. If we use Johan, we plan on pronouncing it Yo-han. We are still mulling it over, but we know we don't want to use anything extremely popular. Our other son's names are Clay Matthew, Emmett Drew, and Dashiell Thomas. We're committed to using the middle name Gregory, whether it goes with the first name or not.

I think it's a nice name, it was very popular here during the 70-80's, pronounced Yoh-Han here, so no J but Y!!!
You can also take Nathan to honour your hubby, or take other names related to John as Elinor suggested, like Evan, Ivan, Jack, John, Jake (Jacob?), Yannick, Jonas, Shane, Sean (Shawn/Shaun)..

I don't care for it. If you're looking for a John name to honor your husband with, why not John or Jon, or any other J name, like James, Jordon, Jacob, Joshua, or Jack (or Jackson)?

I really like it (Yoh-han), but I do prefer it spelled Johann

Obviously most Americans(?) won't be used to pronouncing "j" as "y", which could be confusing with many German/Scandinavian names, but as Johan is so well known I think it'd be fine. I think it's a nice name, and in English-speaking places, an interesting alternative to John.Other more unusual forms of John, or at least connected to John:
Bevan
Ean (EE-an)
Eoin (OE-in)
Evan
Ivan (aside from the Terrible assocations, lol)
Jowan (my favourite)

Love it! I think it's great you would name him after a family member.
