Ayla
I have always pronounced Ayla as A (like the letter)-lah, and I also like it spelt Aila. However the other day my mum said that she hated that spelling because the word 'ail' stuck out. Now I'm not so sure on the correct pronunciation, so how do you say it? And what do you think of the name?

It would be eye-lah in Hebrew. It's very pretty.
Ailsa is nmsaa.

On another name website, they said it was pronounced either Ay-lah, just like Kayla but with no K, or Eye-lah, with the sound of the letter I. I prefer the Eye-lah, The name's pretty, but I bit confusing:-) Yay for Ayla!

I only like the spellings Ayla, and Aela though that's an unrelated Breton name. Ayla looks the most complete to me. I just say AY-la, like Kayla minus the "K" :-)_____________________________________________________________________"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true."Elinor

I agree with the thing about the word "ail" .. I pronounce it the same as you do, if it's Ayla. Aila looks like it could also be pronounced with a long I sound, like Aileen. The Ayla spelling looks .. well, sort of too phonetic, somehow, to me. I guess I just don't care for the name much. It's sort of the same reaction I have to Ella: it seems bland and incomplete. But it also can seem elegant; I go back and forth. Anyway the spelling Ayla looks somewhat inelegant to me. Maybe, if you are looking to spell it differently - Aela, with pronunciation taking a cue from words like aerial, aeroplane?- chazda"I don't want to look like a loser for the rest of my life!" ~ Georgia Ford, on needing a signature

Well, I'd say AY-lah for both Ayla and Aila. But for Ailsa, I would say the first part as "ail".

I pronounce it AY-la. It's a pretty name imo. I'm not crazy about the spelling Aila.

I say Ayla as you do. I don't care for Aila because it looks awkward and made-up. But, I don't care for Ayla, either, because I don't like how it sounds. It's as if it's missing something - maybe short for Kayla or Layla (but I don't like those names, either; they seem trendy).

I would pronounce it as you do, A-lah. Another pronounciation might be AH-lah. I heard the name Ava pronounced that way the other day, as in AH-vah. (I personally pronounce it A-vah). I don't like the spelling Aila, it looks weird to me. I don't particularly like the name either, its not really my style.
