Very tough question as Sam is truly one of my favourite names. However, I would be just naming my son Sam (not Samuel) but I'm torn about not having a formal name so I think I'd more likely use Samantha nn Sam, but w/ the release of Nicole Kidman's "Bewitched" it might become really common again (as it was 15 - 20 years ago).

While I do like Samantha, I have to go with Samuel. It's my favorite Sam name.

I prefer "Sam" on boys, so I'd have to pick Samuel.

Oh well I wasn't going to call either one Sam, I just put that as the title. Sorry for the confusion.

I like Samuel but Samantha is on my hate list ... I really don't like it for some reasonI don't like masculine sounding names on females alice x

interesting, i think Samantha is very feminine (unless you choose to call her by nn Sam...i guess i'm not a nn person anyway)

well i never thought of it that way. you really do look at all parts of the name! (when you think about it, most female names derive from some male name or another)

ooh, tough choice. my hubby just mentioned Samuel for a boy. i don't think you should use both. i think i would choose whichever name was less common in the popularities...i'm guessing that's Samantha (a beautiful girl's name!)ok i checked and i was wrong...Samantha is used more than Samuel...

Tough choice because I also like both. I'd go with Samuel for a boy though. Maybe he'd be willing to use a similar sounding name for a girl. Such as Savannah or Sabrina.

I like both names, but definitely don't use them of you do have a son and daughter. That'd be horrible.

I don't really like the name Samantha, but you could compromise like Sarena said. Samuel if it's a boy and Samantha if it's a girl. Whichever comes first. Or perhaps there is another boys name that you two can agree on?

I kinda like both but because my name is Samantha, I prefer Samuel

Well, maybe you could use Samuel if it's a boy, and Samantha if it's a girl? I like both names, but if I had to pick, I'd choose Samuel.Sarena
