Astor...
I didn't know this was a name! All this time I've been pushing for Aster for a boy. I like this. It means "hawk".
WDYT?

It's not Ass-tor, it's As-tor. I didn't say I was going to use it anyway.

I think the spelling Aster looks better, actually. I'd avoid any name beginning with the sound "ass", but in theory this is quite nice._____________________________________________________________________"There are few more distressing sights than that

I'd be afraid of the first syllable as a nickname. Not my style, sorry.*Brogan

I don't care for it. Astor is a brand of seasoning. It just doen't sound like a name to me - sorry.

I know a girls called Aestrid, and the reaction by many people is to shorten it to Aes, as in As*. Not good, imo, and Astor would get the same thing, I'm afraid. Would work better as a middle name if you really like the sound.

When I see that name, I think of two things: John Jacob Astor (he died on the Titanic and was the richest man in the world at the time) and a hotel, namely: the Waldorf-Astoria.

I think of a hotel when I hear it. And Aster is a flower name here.

I prefer Astor over Aster. It looks more masculine to me too. The meaning of "hawk" is ok too. Though now I suddenly have the image of a hawk swooping around looking for prey.:o)
