WDYTO Monet?
As a former art student with an inclination toward French female names, I love the name Monet [mo-NAY]. My husband likes it, too. (Plus we both knew a smart and beautiful girl named Monet when we were in high school-- positive association.) What do you think? Is it better than the name Simone?

I really dislike Simone because the stressed syllable is "moan". But Monet is *so* much to live up to. What if, like me, she could barely draw a stick person? I just think I'd be embarrassed if I were named Monet. It's a bit like being called Shakespeare with dyslexia. Of the two, I'd have to choose Simone.

My ex-boyfriend Jacob's sister is named Monet. It's actually pretty, but I'd never use it.

Caralee [KARA-lee] is a combo of my husband's and my mother's names. Do you think Monet Caralee sounds okay?

I know this wasn't addressed to me, but...Mo-NAY KARA-lee is difficult for me to say, personally. I want to say Mo-NAY kara-LEE so that the emphasis falls on the right place. Jo mentioned Monet Simone, and I think that is pretty. I'm assuming your mom's name is Cara...what about Charlotte Monet?

I guess i DO say kara-LEE when they are together. It sounds much better, doesn't it?Charlotte Monet is very pretty. And so is Monet Simone. I'll mention to them to DH.Our mother's names are Carolyn and Lesa (like Lisa)-- not easy names to combine, and not names we really wanted to use individually. The best we could come up with was Caralee. There is a history in both my family and my husband's family of naming babies after family members, so we want to honor that tradition but not be obligated to use names we don't really care for. Still working out the kinks.
