Minnie?
What could Minnie possibly be a nickname for, other than Minerva?
I don't particularly like Minnie, which is one reason I wouldn't use Minerva as a first name, but I adore Minerva. What do you think?
I also have an aunt Minnie and I am trying to hypothesize about her first name, and I very much doubt it's Minerva.

My cousins grandmother was Wilhelmina nn Minnie. She was a dastardly old woman, so I can't recommend the name based on my personal experience.
On another note... I think it has WAY too much teasing potential.
Anywhere from a mouse to the size of many things (think about teenage years and rotten teenage boys). I'd steer clear if I were you.

I love Minnie as a nn, but the Minnie Mouse connection is rather strong. :-/ The only names I really like that could have it as a nn are: Araminta / Aminta
Adamina
Jessamine / Jessamyn
Yasmine

When I think of Minnie, two things come to mind. Minnie Mouse and Minnie Pearl. And, I don't like Minerva. Sorry.

Could her nn possibly refer to her physical appearance and have nothing to do with her actual first name? Like when people get called Slim or Stretch? Maybe she's very tiny? Or it's an ironic name because she's very big? Or it might refer to the fact that she was a small baby? Just an idea.

I think Minnie is cute, and would expect it's either your aunt's full name or a nn for Wilhelmina. Minerva is kind of blah, and I personally wouldn't have thought to shorten it to Minnie.

I had a great-aunt named Mildred who was always called Minnie. Also, Minnie Driver's real name is Amelia, her sister couldn't pronounce it so she ended up as Minnie.Other things it might be short for:MelindaMirandaMinnaWilhelminaJasmine? Jessamine?Jemima?MaryMargaretMarlene/MarlenaMonica?Miriam?Marian?With Minerva, you'd be lucky if she ended up Minnie. She'd probably get called Nervie at least a few times.

Wilhemina and Miriam sound most plausible.Another reason I wouldn't use Minerva as a first name is that it's kind of ugly :) I really like it though.
