Sheridan
What do you guys think, and what gender would you think a Sheridan was?

I have a vague sense that Sheridan should be female. Maybe it seems like a longer version of names like Sherry, Sheree and Sheryl. I have a bit of a weakness for it (on a girl), perhaps because I have a weakness for the character that is Tommy Sheridan. (He's a Scottish socialist politician with an, ahem, colourful private life.)

I think it could work for a boy or girl, but it seems masculine to me and I prefer it for a boy. That said, one of my favorite movies (The Snapper) has a character in it named Sharon, but she's Irish and the way people say her name sounds a bit like Sheridan at times. I remember thinking it would make a pretty name.

My first thought was of the show "Keeping Up Appearances" with Hyacinth talking about her son Sheridan, haha.It has a nice sound, kind of neat. I would definitely think male.

Female. My best friend when I was little had an older sister named Sheridan. It always reminded me of hotels, but as a name, I think of her because she's the only Sheridan I've ever met. I'm not really fond of it, though. It's not a name I like or would ever consider using.

most definately a boy. I like the name.

Hotel ChainWhere I live there's a hotel chain called the Sheriton (same pronunciation as Sheridan). That's what I think of with the name. However, I think it's more feminine than masculine.

Reminds me of custard...Probably a boy. If it wasn't associated with frozen treats, I'd think it was a great name.

Male. It reminds me of Captain Sheridan of Babylon 5, as played by Bruce Boxleitner of the boyish grin. I wouldn't be shocked by a girl Sheridan, but I'd think 'redstate yuppie' (aka "trendy"). And I can see how people want to jump it onto girls because of the Sheri- part, which is Cheryl / Sharon -like, but it just doesn't make it less mannish, for me personally anyway.

I see Sheridan as female. I used to like it, but I know an evil (and quite bizarre) girl with this last name so I'm never going to use it...ever. :)

dittoYou have taken the words right from under my fingers. I too know a female Sheridan who completely ruined the name for me. She was ... geez ... not the nicest girl.
