John
Is it too boring or too overly used? I came up with John Gideon for that top five the other day, but it was kind of on a whim. It's growing on me. Does it sound too Biblical together? WDYT? Other suggestions? I want something that is going to spunk John up a little since it is so "safe."

and it's not to safe. John is a nice, simple, traditional name.

I love Gideon, and while I don't think John Gideon is 'too Biblical', I just find John horridly overused and dull. Gideon is much too nice a name to get stuck in the mn spot with John as the fn, imo. :b Jonas/Jonah Gideon or Gideon Jonas would be fab, I think. :)

It is really, really overused. I love it too but I'd never use it, because I know there will never be a lack of Johns running around.John Gideon is great though. John Ambrose? John Augustine? John Ignatius?

I love John. I don't think it's boring :), nothing with as much history attached can be boring IMO. This is one of those names where there is a reason why it's been used so much and it certainly isn't another Jayden-esque overuse/boringness.John Gideon is fine but not a personal favourite because I don't like Gideon. It's not too Biblical, I don't think.John Bertram is my top 10 combo.i posted in the past about trying to spice John up a bit and these were the combos I had:
John Frederick
John Sylvester
John Felix
John Lachlan
John Meredith (though probably in the minority for this :) )
John Peregrine
John Sidney
John Tierney
John Augustus
John Abraham
John Grigor
John Aubrey
John Sebastian

I think in the age of our hypothetical children, John will be very uncommon. John Gideon is wonderful.

John Gideon sounds great; it doesn't strike me as too Biblical. I don't believe in the idea that a middle name has any effect on the impression the first name makes though. We just never hear middle names. Unless you would have him go by both names all the time.John is the name of my nephew. I actually like it fine -- there is a definite appeal in "safe" names for boys.

Sure, it's used a lot, but it's a great name. John Gideon is great. I think I said this same thing in the top five thread, but I love how Gideon spices up John. When I was still thinking about Ferdinand combos, John Ferdinand was in the running. He would have gone by Freddie though. Some others:
John Ezra
John Harvey
John Xavier
John Dominic
John Forrest / Forest
John Felix
John Joachim
John Elliot
John Lysander
John Demetrius / Dimitri
John Silas
John Sylvester
John Wesley
John Octavian
John Augustus
John Claudius
John BenedictAny you like?

I really like John. It's very popular, but it's been very popular for centuries so I don't see that as much of a problem. John Gideon is not bad, but it does sound a lot like Joan Didion, the writer. lol

I like Gideon John better actually. It flows better for me. I have to ponder on a mn for John a little more, but I will definitely get back to you on it.-Tate
