It's not a favourite of mine, but I know a Barnaby, and he really likes his name.

I really don't mind, I think it's nice.:)

The association it brings up for me is an incredibly bad television series from the 70s featuring Buddy Ebsen that was called Barnaby Jones. I think Barnabas might be a better choice.

Love itBarnaby is a top ten boy's name for me, sometimes in the top five. I love B names for boys generally. Barnaby has a nostalgic charm for me. It takes me back to the court of Elizabeth I of England. I picture an Anglo-Irishman named Barnaby come to seek his fortune at court. Silly I know, but I read about an Elizabethan Barnaby someone-or-other once and it's forever in my head now. The "-by" ending has an energetic quality to it. It's fun and classic at the same time. Also, I see it as a bit of an ugly duckling, one of my wallflowers that no one else will want. But now that you say your sister is considering it, I may have to reclassify Barnaby. :-D

lol, I actually have a soft spot for it... Barnaby / Barnabus with nn Barney.I know it's sort of put off by the purple dinosaur but for me, I think of little Barney from Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising sequence (which I love). He gave the name a real sweet, endearing quality to me and I completely forgot about the dinosaur. I think someone with this name would definitely have to learn to live with it but he could turn out to be very classy and strong imo.

Hi, welcome to the boards. Just to let you know, there is a link to the rules posted at the top of the page. It would be a good idea to check those out. Please try cosolidating your posts a little rather than starting four new threads in such a short span. It pushes other posts farther down the board prematurely, and there is nothing wrong with asking multiple questions in one post. It would be understandable to separate your sisters names from your general WDYT, but this could have easily been combined with that one, even with a distinction that it is for someone else and not you.To answer your original question: I actually really like Barnaby, though I'd probably use it as a MN. John Barnaby is strikingly handsome to me as a combo. It is one of those names that is masculine and spunky and cute but will age well all at once, I think.

If you 'know what to do' then why wouldn't you do it before being asked? And if you're not new, why does your posting name not come up in a search before today? And how many sisters do you have, wow? Lexi, Astra, Aryan-Moon, Zia...any more?

No need to be haughty with the "ha". According to your profile, you registered today, so therefore, you are new. Since you did not kindly introduce yourself as a returning user, one can assume that today is your first day. A search of this username reveals posts only from today, and you have not stated that you are a poster formerly known under a different name. If you are not new, as you claim, you would know that coming back and not revealing a former posting identity is considered somewhat deceptive and not looked upon warmly. Also, a returning user would already know those rules. Either way, no need for the snarkiness.Someone who "knows what to do" would also know that we appreciate an attempt at spacing, punctuation and proper sentence structure around here. But you're not new, so why am I telling you what you already apparently know . . .
