Forward!
...No, seriously, Forward. What do you think?I hasten to add that it would be a middle name, and that it would be for a boy, and that it's a word with a huge wealth of meaning for me. It's also not that far away in sound from a lot of surnames, which lends it some extra weight, and it sounds to me vaguely old-fashioned, like Edmond Forward and Nathaniel Pleasant could be brothers from a hundred-fifty years ago as easily as they could be now. ;)So, thoughts on Forward? And some combos!Elliott Forward (this is a thought less for me and more for my sister, for whom the name Forward would also be quite purposeful :)
Lucien Forward
Edmond Forward
Nathaniel ForwardI clearly need more boy names in general, I'm afraid. So if you've got suggestions of names that would sound particularly neat with the middle name Forward (girls, too, if something like Katharine Forward strikes your fancy), please do share? Thanks so much!Array

I actually like it, sure, it's a word name..a blatant word name. but it's nice, for some reason. it sounds good to my ears. Elliott Forward is my favorite of your combos.

I have the notion that a preposition can't be a name... Also, it looks like you're urging Lucien/Edmond/Nathaniel/whatever the first name is to go forward.

No, just no. Not a name for a person. It's an action, not a name.:)

I'm sure the whole "forward" thing has been mentioned, I haven't read the other posts. That would knock it off my list pretty fast, personally: the fact that if Elliot or Nathaniel told me his middle name was Forward I'd snicker because of a gut reaction to dirty jokes. Then I'd say "Wow, that's cool, is it a family name?" while being embarrassed about snickering, but still feeling justified. And if he said "No" I would snicker some more, I wouldn't be able to help myself. Then I'd think about all day how funny it was that someone's parents actually gave a kid the middle name "Forward."BUT it is definitely really neat sounding and I think it ETA: I guess it doesn't jump to other people's minds like it jumps to mine. I tried to explain it a few times but it didn't come out; do you understand where I'm coming from? If not I shall try again.

Being forward is considered rude. And also, nobody but nobody likes getting forwards in their inbox.

Ah, but being a forward thinker is a good thing. And Forward's also the name of a beautiful statue representing my state's motto.Array

also...Say it's a mn. We'll say Gerald Forward. Say them aloud together: Gerald Forward (Aside from sounding like Gerald Ford. lol) I've seen enough people with guide dogs to know that when they want to start walking with the dog, they say the dog's name first followed by "forward." So Gerald Forward also sounds like a command. Like Gerald, Heel! or Gerald, Sit!

I just imagine a general form way back when screaming "FORWARD SOLDIERS!" I don't like it particularly, but I see where you are coming from. If you insist on using it though, I think it goes quite well with Edward or Edmond.I still like Nathaniel Pleasant as well.

I'm disinclined to use Edward Forward, hehe, but Edmond Forward is appealing at the moment. And I'm glad to hear it--I have a really hard time pairing Nathaniel with anything else, honestly. :DThanks!Array
