I was watching a British show the other day. There was a family with three year old twins Fergus and India.
I've always liked both names. But somehow after hearing them together I loved them both. It's such a quirky sounding pair.
What do you think of Fergus? India? Not necessarily as siblings, but what do you think of the names themselves?
Just for fun, try to image what these parents used for mns. My guess is Fergus Alasdair and India Verity. Yours?

Fergus is one I love, but had no mn to pair it with. Fergus Alistair- of course. So handsome, and you can just hear the highland brogue.
I know the Brits (and others) have been using India as a name for a long time, but it just seems overtly, and condescendingly, colonialist for a name- akin to (but not the same as) Dakota or Cheyenne. Is that fair?

Hmmm. Fergus Malachi & India Persephone? Your guess is as good as mine! It's a fun sibset. I wouldn't personally use either name, but I would like seeing them on someone else's children.

I LOVE the name India
It has always been one of my favourites but I've never received much of a positive reaction from it. I would probably use India Rose (as boring as it may seem to others) just because I like it, it goes together and my name is Rosemary. I've always struggled to think of another name that goes well with it. Nothing ever seems right to me. If they were British I wouldn't be surprised if they used India May / Mai /Mae. Possibly India Violet, India Ruby or India Zoe.
I don't mind Fergus but I don't hate it either. I think Fergus Alasdair goes well. I could imagine an arty couple having children called India and Fergus. How about Fergus Ross, Fergus Laurence, Fergus Rowan, Fergus Henry or Fergus Jasper?

Fergal -- I've never heard of it before. I love it. Thanks! It reminds me of Fingal, one of Oscar Wilde's mns. Very storybook / mystical sounding to me.
I'm sorry to hear India is becoming trendy. That makes sense because the show I was watching was British. At least your trends aren't awful concoctions like we have here in the US, like Destinee.

I used to not like Fergus at all, but I think it is pretty charming. I think Fergus Alasdair sounds great. I have a cousin named India and I like the name. I don't care for her middle name though. I'm not sure what I would pair with it.

I like Fergus, but I've never been a huge fan of India. Though I have to admit, Indigo is a guilty pleasure of mine - I prefer it for a girl, and I think its very cute.
India Verity sounds super neat. The first middle names that jumped into my head are Fergus Conall and India Joy. For Indigo (though you didn't ask!) I'm liking something like Indigo Alice or Indigo Mae or even Indigo Laine. Yes, for some reason I find Indigo Laine very appealling.

Fergus is fine for someone else's bebe, but I can't help but think of Ferguson Darling, Clarissa's younger brother on the old TV show Clarissa Explains It All. Major part of my childhood, et cetera. So it doesn't appeal much.
India, on the other hand, feels quaintly old-fashioned, as far as place names go. I love it.
Today, I'll say they're Fergus Conall and India Blythe. (You've no idea how hard it is for me to resist the urge to put forth India Pepelu, augh.)

I've no idea if it's actually Turkish or just invented whole cloth--but that's the best I can give you as far as origin information goes. Maybe I'll poke around on Facts someday.

I've always loved India since I first saw "GWTW" as a child. My favorite India combo is India Jane. I might have considered using India at one time until my dh said to me "Why not just name the next one Afghanistan?" and I began to see his side of things.
Fergus has never appealed to me. I picture a bewhiskered older gentlemen with a thick Scottish accent and an equally thick fisherman's sweater. ;-) Fergus Alasdair is quite fetching. I love Alasdair.

LOL, that's it exactly! Fergus IS crusty and that's the main reason why I dislike it.
I've always had a thing for names. I also remember seeing "Sound of Music" as a child and had a fit over all of the childrens' names (especially Brigitta and Louisa).

I think India Jane is thrilling. I like all sorts of mns. They alter the flavor of the fn the way different ingredients in a stew do.
Jane is sweet and doesn't compete with India. The effect is to allow India is sparkle even more than before. Like a solitary setting in a ring. (I'm full of imagery today. Or something . . . )
