Francis
I was wondering what people's general feeling about this name is. I think it's on its way back, but only the formal. No nicknames.I actually think Francis Xavier is a cool combo, even though I am not Catholic.I'd probably stick with Francis Peter.

I really like Francis and have always envisioned a little blonde haired, blue eyed boy when I hear the name. I also like Frances for a girl. I think it would work well for a person of all ages.Francis Xavier is an awesome name. I just like those combination of letters together. I would go with that over Francis Peter.

It just sounds like a grandpa to me.

There has been a lot of talk about both Francis and Frances lately, so I think the name could be on the comeback trail for both sexes. I prefer it for a male though and I think Francis Peter has a nicer ring to it.

I love Francis (as well as Frances and Francine for a girl). It just sounds warm and inviting to me. I adore Francis Xavier, but then again, I am Catholic, so the saintliness appeals to me (although Francis of Assisi is my favorite St. F). Francis Peter is fantastic too.

I love Francis! It's very handsome and calm. Francis Xavier is cool, and I actually thought about Peter Francis for a little while. My favorte is Francis Scott "Scott", because it reminds me of both Francis Scott Key and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

A very dear friend is named Matthew Francis; and Francis Xavier is a very cool combo. My preference here is actually Ferenc (the Hungarian Francis), only because of a very positive personal association. :-)

I like Francis just Francis, with the occassional Franny between family, but do get caught up in the Frank / Frankie stereotypes.

I wanted to name my son Francis (the name of his great grandfather), but my husband didn't go for it. It was the stereotypes of Frank and Frankie that turned him off.I ran into a checkout clerk at the drugstore who was surprisingly named Francis. *sigh* Very natty name.

I love Francis but I'm kind of divided on it. I very much enjoy the name for the name's sake and it's easy to make a nice combo with it as a middle name, but I can't envision myself comfortably calling someone by the first name Francis. So there's the dilemma: I think it makes a good name, but maybe not a real person's name. I've never been a big fan of Xavier. X names always tend to feel a bit forced to me; the few that there are I associate with goth-type adolescent fandom. :-/ I like Francis Peter, though. It's very together. It's on my on-again off-again list as a middle name. Francis has a number of sentimental connections to my family so it feels very 'fitting' with a handful of other family-type names that I also like. I usually work it into a combo as:Dominic Francis
Anthony Francis
Raymond Francis
Peter Francis

I looove it. For the life of me I cannot explain why. I shouldn't love it at all, and I still dislike Frank. Sounds like farting.Francis Xavier springs to most heads when I mention Francis. It is my friend Alexandra's top boy combo actually, I think. (Her brother is Marcus Xavier.) My Francis combo is also my #1 boys' combo, Simon Francis Benedict, and I'm not Catholic. I also like Henry Francis, Victor Francis, and Leopold Francis - although I think one must be very careful with Francis as it can easily make the name next to it seem ridiculously feminine. Francis Peter is nice. (I do not make a lot of Francis as a FN combos because I prefer Frances (f) as a FN, so the association is hard for me to get over.)

Francis was my #2 name for years. (I took it as my Catholic confirmation name at 16 years old.) Peter has remained my #1 since childhood. Francis Peter is making me purr. :-)My only fear with Francis is that some people now don't know that Francis is the male spelling and Frances is the female. It drives me batty.
