Message: "Keturah" - Behind the Name

This is a family name for me (one I haven't yet seen mentioned). I've always liked it. My grandmother's grandmother's sister was named Annie Keturah. We have a huge photograph of her in her house with her two sons. Aunt Annie's (and my great-grea-grandmother Alice Augusta's) grandmother was also named Keturah Brown Duvall also, wife of Isaac Burton, founder of Burtonsville, MD. I know you wanted to know all that. :-D

I like the meaning of this name better than its sound, honestly, but I do like it somewhat. It has significant mn potential for its meaning alone; but it has a stronger, sharper sound than many other female names and that fact also recommends it, in my mind. It's not first-tier for me but I can understand why you'd like it, what with my dear, offbeat Mahalia being a family name.

Keturah took its turn as a board favorite, I believe. At least I remember seeing it often enough. I think other people's enthusiasm made it get old fast for me. I don't really dislike it in and of itself but the sort of annoying interest it inspired plus how long I have to speculate on its pronunciation before I hit the right one make it a name I don't have a lot of enthusiasm for. I'm not repulsed by it but it'd never cross my mind to suggest it to anyone, either.

I love Keturah. Unfortunately, my sister tainted it in my mind by noting how close it sounds to a female body part. Really beautiful name though.

I'm quite familiar with "all that" and I have no idea what she could be talking about, unless it's regional slang.
