Marilyn
Recently I LOVE Marilyn for a girl. What do you think ? Will it become popular because of Marilyn Monroe and it being close to Evelyn ? Or will it stay unpopular because of Marilyn Manson ? And what do you think of Carolyn ?

I think Marilyn is lovely. I'm thinking of using it to honor an Aunt. I've never been fond of Carolyn, ever (and I had a great Aunt named Carolyn, too. She went by Caroline, herself). I love Caroline.

Marilyn is okay. I can actually picture it getting popular in the next little while, though, since it's one of the nicer-lyn names. I actually know someone with a little girl named Maralina nn Lina (or it might be Marilina...I forget the exact spelling), which I think I might like better.I've never liked Carolyn, but I do really like Caroline.

I've been thinking of Marilyn for a girl recently too. I don't think it'll become popular because of it being close to Evelyn, but probably because "old-fashioned" names are coming back into style. I'm sure that, if it becomes extremely popular, some people will say "Oh, it's because we love Marilyn Monroe so much". I don't think Marilyn Manson will prevent it being popular...afterall, he did get the name through Marilyn Monroe. Plus, there are names with far worst associations than Marilyn Manson and they have become popular nonetheless.I like Carolyn. I prefer Caroline though.

I think if it were to get popular due to Marilyn Monroe, it would have happened by now.I prefer Marilyn over Carolyn.

I don't think so...I think of it as a typical 40s/50s name and those haven't made a comeback just yet. At the moment it's still the 1900-1930 names that are being rediscovered. I think Marilyn's comeback will happen in 10 or 20 years...

It's an ok name (which I associate way more with Monroe than Manson) but feels a bit 1980s-ish. Carolyn is fine, but not great.

good thing that most people associate it with Marilyn Monroe. I think of her, too.

Marilyn has always had some popularity, it hasn't been below 600 on the charts since the 20's. So I doubt either Marilyn Monroe or Marilyn Manson have effected it much (and I doubt Marilyn Manson would ruin popularity-- I'm sure he has fans)
[http://www.behindthename.com/top/search.php?extra=p&terms=Marilyn&submit=Go]I've been liking it too lately. I don't like Carolyn though.

yes but...when a name is below the top 300 or let's say below the top 500 it's hardly used. At least I think so. I've never met a Marilyn under the age of 50.

YeahIn 2007, it was at 520, with 593 girls given the name. I think it still has a couple decades to go before it gets really popular again.

I like Marilyn, and I think of Marilyn Monroe before Marilyn Manson. But it's been so popular in the past that it's too soon for a comeback. And Carolyn is nice.

I agree...but I'm not going to have children for 8 more years or so. I think it won't sound so outdated anymore by then. I hope it stays unpopular, though :P

I also love Marilyn. :) It's so feminine and pretty! I don't think it will become too popular any time soon - I've noticed that a lot of Mary- names are falling in popularity. I dislike Carolyn.
