Floride
This was the name of the wife of John Calhoun, the firebrand nineteenth century Southern senator. Floride. I wonder if it was pronounced like "fluoride." Probably not, but that's what I think when I look at it. What do you think of Floride?

To me it's just a state's name in French, since I live in a French-speaking area. But, some states are used as names, I have a young rellie called Kansas.
Actually, it's quite pretty.

It's kinda cute but I prefer Florida. It could grow on me and become a GP.

My first intuition would be to pronounce it "flo-REED". I think it sounds pretty contrived and fake.

Maybe they pronounced it like Florida? I actually saw it in a book on the ghosts of Kentucky. A little girl named Florida and her mother died in a fire and haunted a house. I don't like it at all, but apparently Floride wasn't completely alone :o)
