Savannah
What do you think of Savannah for a girl? Is it too modern/trendy? Will it age well? How many Savannahs do you know and how old are they?

I like it. I don't see why it wouldn't age well. It may not age as well as Susannah, but it should still age fine.

I met one little girl named Savannah at my daughter's 6th birthday party 7 years ago. She was either 6 or a little younger since I can't remember if she was the classmate or the classmate's sister. All I remember is she had a sister named Marina, and her mother said, "One by land, one by sea!" I remember thinking that the names were nice, but the little catch phrase was tacky. The only other Savannah I have known of is a very famous porn star. For me, that ruins it. I do think it is a trendy name, yet it is a nice name. It has gotten really popular lately, but it's at 112, and I'm considering #116 right now to use. My daughter's name was 267 the year she was born and it's 102 now! Gross.I would say that if you have never heard of the porn star, then don't worry about the popularity or trendiness. That woman I speak of is pretty famous, but it's not like say, Madonna, which would be a great name if not for the pop star. It is very possible to hear Savannah without thinking of the celebrity whereas it is literally impossible to think of Madonna without thinking of that celebrity. Sad, since we ought to think of the Virgin Mary. ha

I've indeed never heard of the porn star - but I don't live in the US.Savannah is 112? last time I checked it was at number 30. Savannah and Marina are nice for sisters.Oh you have a daughter named Charlotte, how lovely :) The good thing is that your daughter is 13? now so she won't have to worry about meeting many Charlottes her age. My name got a bit common 10 years after I was born (in the early 2000s) and I like how people always say my name seems fresh and new :PRuby...I feel it's getting very common, I can see it in the top 10.

You know, I think I have seen Savannah a lot higher on popularity charts like you say, but they all say something different. Some say Aiden is #17, others say it's #1. Yes, I think living in the US does make a big difference on the porn star reference, and I have met other people that are reminded of her, but a lot of Americans haven't. It's not like I'm some sort of porn fan (LOL!), but I guess I can be something of a media whore, so I hear and get familiar with these names easily.I also think Marina and Savannah go nicely together. I don't think I would ever use either, but I do like them. You're right, my daughter almost never meets anyone with her name. there is one other Charlotte in her school, and she was named after the children's book, Charlotte's Web. This may be the only one she has ever known. She loves her own name, and I think that's important.I appreciate the feedback on Ruby, too. You may well be right about how common it is becoming. I'm still not sure though if the perception of it being common is universally accurate or if it's more of a non-American phenomenon. Like Matilda... I can't see that ever getting popular in the US, but it is insanely popular everywhere else, especially Australia. Interesting how a name's perceptions change so dramatically from one country to the next, isn't it?
