As I always say, makes a great surname. I would only use it as a fn/mn if it was a family name.
I also think of Tom Sawyer. Great book but still wouldn't use Sawyer for a fn.

I LOVE THIS NAME... before Lost even... it's been on my top 10 for quite awhile now!

Sawyer's already popular, as far as I'm concerned--heh.While I think it's a lovely name, I am swayed toward it being feminine, I'm afraid. When I hear the name, I immediately think of this lovely kitty: http://sawyer.path-of-silence.com/And so while I can definitely see it on a boy, it just swings feminine as far as my own personal preferences go. I always rather fancied the combo Sawyer Natalie, but that's far too cheesey (Natalie Cole sings for the cat in the film).Life would be much easier if I wasn't such a cartoon person.Array

But Sawyer is his surnamenot his fn. Actually it is not even his real surname but this is beside the point.Since such occupations names are aldready popular in USA (like Taylor, Tyler, Mason, Carter etc), I am sure Sawyer will be popular too. And parents say "oh, it is so cute for a girl". I don't like such names as fn and espcecially not for girls. But I am European and old-fashioned.I wonder if Carter got popular b/c of the TV series ER? But this Carter was named John Carter, so Carter was a surname here too."You sought a flower and found a fruit. You sought a spring and found a sea. You sought a woman and found a soul. You are disappointed."

I know .. his real name was James something, but I only think of him as being Sawyer as that is what he's usually called =)I really really dislike Carter (and most surnames) *especially* on girls .. I actually find masculine names on girls quite "offensive" (does that make sense?) and cutesyI am from England :)Alice

Just don't use the mn Jame or Ford! I admit, I am falling in love with Sawyer to because of lost. Damn Josh HAlloway for being so dreamy... Arcadia

It's just an object. It doesn't mean what you think

Why not Jame or Ford? :/ Yes, he is rather dreamy. Even though the character is practically evil!Alice

Sawyer's real name is James Ford.. I believe Sawyer is the fake name he used when scamming people. Still a nice name though ;)--

I know a one year old named Sawyer. Getting very popular here.
His big sister is Skylar which is another popular one in my area.

I love the name and the character :) (I actually almost met the actor that plays him, Josh Holloway, at the Comic-Con but they ran out of tickets for the autograph signing :( But my friend Eric met him (as well as Maggie Grace, who plays Shannon) and said they were both really nice :))--

I like Sawyer better as a girls' name, and I like it a lot. Which gender did you mean it for? (I haven't seen "Lost" - I haven't bought a TV license yet!)_____________________________________________________________________Elinor'Why do people with closed minds, always open their mouths?'

I hadn't even thought about it for a girl to be honest, I always think Tom Sawyer or the character from Lost (who is male):)Alice

I love it too! I just think it's fresh and spunky and I picture an extremely spirited boy!! One of my favourites combos (I'd say...like the 3rd in my list of "non-Catalan names" -names that wouldn't fit in) is Declan Sawyer!
