Thomas
What do you think of Thomas? Is it still common where you live or declining? Would a Thomas get called Tom or Tommy? I like Thomas but I'm not fond of any of the nicknames. How many do you know? Do they go by their full name or a nickname?

I love Thomas. It's the longest-standing male name on my list...a wonderful, timeless classic.I have no idea how common/popular it is in my area. I don't hear it often...I think you could avoid a nickname when he was little, but he might prefer to go by one when he gets older.Amazingly, I don't think I know anyone named Thomas. (I do know a man whose given name is Tommy, though. He, of course, goes by Tom.)

I have to say, I'm a bit biased when it comes to Thomas, seeing as its my younger brother's name. :)
I think it's handsome. I know two Thomases, my brother and his friend, and they both go by Thomas. I have tried calling my brother Tom or Tommy, but he hates it.

I've only met three Thomases in my lifetime. One is my Uncle and he goes by Tom, another is a kid from school who is 18 and he goes by Tommy, and the third is a 14 year old who lives on my street, who goes by Thomas. I think that all of them have gone by those names from a very young age and it didn't happen automatically. Honestly though nicknames are practically inevitable amongst friends.

I adore the name Thomas. I would love to use it but our last name starts with a T and it sounds kind of funny. I also love the nicknames Tom and Tommy but you could definitely just call your son Thomas with no nicknames. In fact, I know a 22 month old Thomas who's parents do not want him to go by any nicknames. It's a great name!

I love Thomas, it's very dignified. I know several Thomas' actually. One, was my "for all intents and purposes" father, who passed away earlier this year. He didn't care for his name though and just went by "T" or Tam.Two, was a little two year old I met who went by Tommy.Three, was a guy around my age (late 20's-early 30's)named Thomas Jeffrey, nn T.J.And one older man who goes by Thomas.I personally love the nicknames Tam and Tavish, or just Tavish period.

I think Thomas is one of the most handsome names ever. It is fairly common for baby boys where I live still. I've heard of a few of them. Though often I think they're named for their fathers. I think a Thomas would automatically get called Tom, although I've found that people are usually pretty good about calling them whatever they hear or asking if they go by the usual nickname. I never used to like the nickname Tom, but I know of the cutest baby boy named Thomas "Tom", so I see it in a new light now.I know so many guys named Thomas of all different ages, I could never count them all! I don't think I know any who go by Thomas though... they all go by Tom, and one from high school mostly went by Tommy.

I have never met a Thomas! Its one of my husbands middle names (along with William) and I know quite a few kids with it as a middle name. I could see him getting called Tom by people but if you kept calling him Thomas it might just stay that way! Unfortunantley it seems no matter what name you have someone will find a nick-name or a way to shorten it!
