Sloane (g)
What do you think of the name Sloane on a girl? I was watching Ferris Bueller's Day Off yesterday, and I remembered that I used to really like Sloane as part of my androgynous Sloane - Flynn - Blaine phase. Any thoughts?

Mia Sara's character was stunning but her name was vileIt would have to rate as one of the ugliest sounding surnames around, I'm sorry and I cannot believe people use this on boys let alone females.I think if Sloth from The Goonies had a twin sister, Sloane would do nicely. The Sloane Ranger slur is another mark. Because of this I find this surname more faux pretentious than most.

Sounds too rugged to be unisex, IMO, but that's just me.

Sloane is too masculine and surnamey and it reminds me of Eragon. I don't like that book.

I don't like it, firstly because of the sound, and secondly because in the UK, a Sloane is a term (albeit slightly outdated now) for a really rich, snobby, fashion-conscious young person, which comes from Sloane Square in a very posh part of London. Also, it sounds kinda like 'slow'. Not a great association.

Sloane is too surnamey and too "Sloane Rangers" for me. It's better as a GP or, at best, a middle name. Blair on a girl is kind of a GP for me.

I understand this. Sloane and Blair (g) are both GP of mine. They SOUND really pretty. But they also give off a super snobby yuppy impression to me moreso than androgyny. Probably stuck as GP to me.

I don't like Sloane at all. I just think it's a very unattractive name both for a girl and a boy.

I quite like it but only as a middlename. It's to masculine as a boys names for me.

Sorry, but I really dislike it. I always thought Sloane on a girl would be really unattractive but it wasn't until I actually met a female Sloan that I realized how ugly it is. I just look at her and I don't see Sloan. To be honest, Sloane makes Madison look good.

I like it. It does make me think of that movie, but I love that movie so it's a good association.

Sorry but I really dislike it. I find surnamey, trendy, and not remotely feminine. The kind of name that's bad enough on a boy but really terrible on a girl.

My thoughts exactly.
