I prefer Wren. Renn is too close to Ren, which is typically masculine.

It depends on what you're going for. If the book character spells it Renn and you want it to be tied to the book character, spell it Renn. But if you just like the sound of the name, spell it Wren because that's actually a word/name.

Wren please! Renn makes me think of the stupid TV show Ren and Stimpy (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ren_and_stimpy). What a HORRIBLE namesake for your son. Wren has class, though. Also I believe that Ren is a female name in Japan so you may want to consider that as well.

Wren is a family surname for me, so I'm biased. But even before I dug around in my family tree I remember thinking it would be a cute name for a girl. I love the image of a small, energetic bird. Plus, there aren't that many feminine (or masculine come to think of it) W names that are usable. Wren definitely is a credit to her letter. :-)Renn might work as a nn (Renata / Renee / Rene, Terence, Kerensa, Maren, Lauren, Lawrence, Laurentia, etc.). But it doesn't strike me as subtantial enough to stand on its own. It looks more like random letters thrown together, sorry. I haven't read your book so I don't have any frame of reference for it. I can't tell if its masculine or feminine.

I don't pronounce them the same, Wren is 'vrehn' and Renn is 'rehn' to me. I love Wren, btw.
