Mairin vs Merryn ??
Wondering what the feedback is on these two spellings of female name pronounced Mare-in. The second name is also pronounced "Maureen" but is sometimes Anglicized to "Mare-in"
Merryn (Cornish, old Saint) Mairin (Irish)
Thank you!

Personally prefer Merryn.
I prefer it in look and easier pronunciation.Neither is bad, but I feel Mairin is more confusing.

Mairin looks prettier to me, but I prefer the Anglicized pronunciation. How about Maren?

Merryn sounds male to me, and Mairin = Maureen. To get the sound, I'd probably go with something like Maggie's suggestions below.Similar suggestions with a slightly different sound:
Mirren (Scottish, form of Marion, pronounced MIR-en)
Mirain (Welsh, means 'lovely', pronounced MI-rine, to rhyme with vine)

Spelling the name simply Maren...My husband doesn't like the spelling "Maren"

I like Merryn much better for that pronunciation. I'd pronounce Mairin like Maureen. I also like Maren... have you considered that?

I prefer Merryn for a boy, it was originally a male name (the Cornish saint was male) and I know a boy named this.Mairin isn't my style. I like Maren for a girl.

I think Mairin is a lot prettier, more feminine, and less trendy-looking than Merryn.
