Maud or Maude?
Which spelling do you prefer, and what do you think of the name in general? I have always loved Maude, but am coming around to the shorter spelling. Second question: What other female names do you like that end in the 'd' sound? My main favourites would be Winifred and Enid.

Maude. When I see Maud I just want to write the e onto the end. It's pretty nice, I like it better as a nn but I like how unusual it is and the old fashioned feel.Winifred and Enid are both nice, especially Enid.RIght now I'm personally a fan of the clunkier Angharad and Eoforhild and Mairead is a long time favorite.

Matilde(love it)I am not sure about Winifred - I do like Wilfred which is quite similar. I think it's growing on me. And I like Win/Wynn. I have a distant cousin Winnie - I guess her name is Winifred.

Maud / Maude is terrific. It makes me think of Queen Matilda and the civil war she waged against her cousin Stephen for the English thrown. The people called her, "Maude / Maud." I started out prefering the Maude spelling. But now the less-is-more Maud spelling is gaining ground. It's the same transformation I've been undergoing with Isabelle --> Isobel. Winifred and Enid are awesome. I'm hoping Enid gains in popularity soon. She's such a surprising little power-house of a name. My favorite names ending in "d:"Angharad (so Welsh it sound Arabic!)

OTA teacher I had in middle school has a daughter named Angharad, no lie. :) Her father's family was Welsh.

so welsh it sounds arabicmy god you are right. That is one heckuva name. I instantly resepct it. And it is said EXACTLY as it looks, how unique with a Welsh name!

Isn't Angharad gorgeous? It's a shame she frightens people. She only wants to be their friend. :-)

MaudI love this name and I prefer this spelling, Maude is heavier. More serious.I came across the name Arnaude recently, I don't know if I like or hate it. Otherwise, I like Winifred, Enid, Claude, Aude, Clothilde, Mathilde...

I prefer Maude, because that version is just more me; it has a little extra embellishment. But I like Maud too.As for other d-ending names, I like Rosalind, Swanhild, Isolde, Felicidad, Clotilde, and Winifred, of course :)

MaudMaude is sweet, but the shorter spelling makes it less old fashioned and modernizes it. Makes it seem more like the word MOD I guess. It just has more character to me when I look at it.
I love Maud and Enid btw! Winifred is pretty darn cute. The only other ones I can think about are Ingrid (which I love) and Astrid (which I hate)

MaudeI think the spelling Maud looks unfinished. I've always had a soft spot for Maude. Astrid
Winnifred

It's clunky and ugly, but in a charming way. I can't say that I don't like it. I kind of like it. Usually I prefer spellings that use more letters, but in this case, I think I prefer Maud. It reminds me less of a brash, outspoken, middle-aged woman who looks like Bea Arthur.

my great grams name was maude, though im still not sure which spelling was used as ive seen both. i think i prefer the "e" on the end. her mn was verdie

I love Maud, it's so pretty and simple - prettier without an extra e, imo. Winifred is also adorable. Enid is growing on me, but I prefer it with the Welsh pronunciation (en-id).I like Angharad and Vered too, and also Mared / Mairead.

I prefer Maud, it looks cleaner somehow. My favourite -d name for girls has got to be Vered.

MaudeMaude looks a lot more feminine to me than Maud does. I think Maud looks incomplete.
I like Maude but I prefer it as a middle name.I also like Winifred, Sinéad, Adelaide, Arnaude & Mélisande.

I prefer shorter spellings most of the time, though I do make an exception of Anne. Here, I definitely prefer Maud: less frilly, more medieval-with-broadsword than dainty-damsel-seeks-knight.I can't warm to Winifred! Sorry, but there it is. Enid is goodish, and I've got a guiltily soft spot for Angharad.

MaudeIt looks more complete and feminine to me. I'm not a huge fan of Maude, it seems kind of melancholic to me.My favourites ending in a d are Eseld, Brigid, Mairead and Rosamond
