Sabine
today's name of the day reminded me! Whoa, flashback! I used to ADORE this name when I was in junior high. I loved how light and sparkling the name was, like running up and down the bars of a glockenspiel.I'm not usually partial to Isabel, but Sabine Isabel strikes me as delightfully crystalline; it looks like a kind of mirror image of itself. what do you think of Sabine? What would you pair it with?

It is pretty, and I once taught a very nice one; pretty and bright and pleasant.Possible snag: pronunciation. She was a tolerant child and answered to just about anything, but in the family she was sa-BEE-na with the a syllables being, effectively, neutral vowels. Some of my colleagues used to show off or try to be hypercorrect, and pronounced it zah-BEE-nah, which is authentic in the wider world but not in that particular girl's life.

It's very pretty, it has a nice ring to it. (It also reminds me of the Sabine women, but I shall ignore them)
Hmm how about...
Sabine Péronne
Sabine Myrtille
Sabine Lucille
Sabine Gertrude
Sabine Laurence (with the French pronunciation)
Sabine Hortense (ditto)
Sabine Berenice
Sabine Marigold
Sabine Claudette

Oooh, I like Sabine. I don't think about it much unless it pops up in a create-a-family game or I am compelled to fish around for an S name, but I do think it's a neat one. How are you pronouncing it? My context of first hearing it was in German but I think I like it either way, probably depending on what it's paired with. Part of the appeal for me is that it feels so old to me on account of its meaning. So I like it for kind of the opposite reason you do. :-) To me it's like an ancient stone road, you know? Enduring. I don't tend to be a fan of Isabel but I like it with Sabine, I think. Sort of an updated medieval thing it has going on. I know a new baby Wren Sabina, which I think is kind of charming if not verging on hipster. In that way it reminds me of Simone, although more daring. Some combos I like with it: Sabine Rohese
Sabine Marion
Sabine Lovisa
Sabine Antonia
Polina Sabine
Julia Sabine
Rosamond Sabine
Gisela Sabine

I'm saying it "sah-BEEN" - I imagine the German version would have a softer "ah" ending?Sabine Rohese is crazy wonderful, so sultry and mysterious. I also looove Rosamond Sabine, or Sabine Rosamond. Also Sabine Rosalind strikes me as beautiful as well.Thank you!

Yep, the German has the extra syllable at the end. I looooove Rohese. It actually solves the only thing that I don't like about its eventual form Rose, which is that it doesn't have that satisfying H sound anywhere in it. No throat in it, you know? I think Ros- compliments Sabine pretty nicely, now that I see this many of them in a row. :-)

Sabine is terrific. It's so cool, elegant. It has an "I-don't-care-if-you-don't-understand-my-appeal.-I-get-it-and-that's-all-I-need" confidence. The "been" sound is irresistable to me.Sabine Isabel is a little "b" heavy for me, but it's not a deal breaker. Others you might like:Sabine Mathilde

Sabine Isadora
Sabine Mireille
