May
The go-to middle name for girls in my family. I always thought it sounded sweeter as a first name, but that's just my opinion.Anyway, a few questions:1.Do you know anyone with the name?2.WDYT of it? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being sucky and 10 being perfection, where would you rate it?3.Do you prefer May or Mae?4.Can you think of any good combos? Thanks, guys. :)

1. I had a great-aunt named May or Mae, born in the early 1900's. I don't know her exact birth year, nor am I sure whether it was spelled May or Mae.2. I would rate it a 5. It's not terrible, and not great.3. I prefer May. Mae seems a little hillbilly to me. Makes me think that my great-aunt was probably May, but again I'm not sure.4. I'm terrible at combos, but I think it would sound best with a middle name of at least three syllables.

As Mae is my latest name crush I'll give it a 9 1/2.
I don't know anyone by this name but I think it's very sweet as a first name.
I do find it hard to come up with any good combos, though. So I was just about to ask for middle names for Mae that sound good with Frances Fern (which is another recent name crush of mine...).

- I love the name, but prefer Mae and I too prefer it as a fn. I'd actually give this name about a 9, I really do love it.

1. Not as a first name, but it's my middle name and it was also my grandmother's mn.
2. 5, 6, or 7. It's not horrible, but sort of average in my opinion.
3. May, definitely. Mae is cuter, but since May is a month, it seems like misspelling Lily "Lilli" or something... if it's a word, it makes more sense to spell it like the word. May also ages better.
4. May Irena, May Peony, May Hyacinth, May Lilith, May Gabriella, May Giovanna, May Helene, May Ione, May Ioanthe, May Johanna, May Circe, May Bellatrix, May Farida, May Galena, May Fiona, May Laurel, May Catherine, May Cerridwen, May Juliana, May Lucy, May Cassandra, May Charlotte, May Branwen, May Elaine, May

8 to 9.3.Do you prefer May or Mae?
I prefer May, but I also like Mae.4.Can you think of any good combos?
It's hard to pair with it in the first name slot because it's so short. I think it needs a longer middle name to balance it out, like May Elizabeth for example.

I know one woman with the middle name May, and another named Marie-Mai, always called that. It's a fairly common combination where I live.I'd rate it about a 6. I guess I prefer May. No combos, sorry, I'm not good at that.

I know a lot of people with it as a middle or last name.2.WDYT of it? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being sucky and 10 being perfection, where would you rate it?
A 4.5, I guess. It's cute, but not substantial enough for a full opinion.3.Do you prefer May or Mae?
May, by far. Mae looks really jarring to me.4.Can you think of any good combos?
I seems like it'd be good with a two-syllable name. Jillian May
Charlotte May
Edith May
Eva May
Irene May

1. Nope, I don't know anyone.
2. 10 - I LOVE it. It was on my short list for the little girl I'm pregnant with, but DH didn't like it with our last name (both 1 syllable), so we're doing Mabel with the occasional nn Mae.
3. I like Mae b/c I think it's more antique.
4. May Rosalind was my favorite combo. There's also May Eloise. I think 3-syllable mn's sound good with May, though I suppose it also depends on your surname.

1. No
2. Love it. I'd rate it a 9. It loses a point because I tend to like longer names that can be shortened.
3. May when a full name, but I might spell it Mae as a nn.
4. May Georgina, May Honora, May Juliana, May Virginia?

1.Do you know anyone with the name? No.2.WDYT of it? On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being sucky and 10 being perfection, where would you rate it?I think it's a pretty name, and I'd like to see it more often. I'd give it an 8. 3.Do you prefer May or Mae?I like both spellings, but Mae would probably be better for someone who wasn't born in May just so that other people wouldn't assume that she was born in May because of her name. It's not that big of a deal though. I don't think that someone named May necessarily has to be born in May.4.Can you think of any good combos?May Elizabeth / Elisabeth
