Mildred
Are we crazy to consider Mildred as a middle name? It is a family name on both sides and we do like it (although we would not use it as a first name). Some combos we are considering are Eliza Mildred and Lucy Mildred? Some name books suggest that Mildred is better left behind. What do you think? Thanks.

Eliza is beautiful, but I dislike the way Mildred sounds to be honest. It reminds me of the word "mildew." It would be a good way to honor your family members, however. I suppose it depends on how much you want to honor them. Personally, I'd probably try to find another honoring name because I dislike the sound of it, but if you don't mind the way it sounds, then it's less of an issue.

Go with what you love. Since your considering it for a middle name what does it matter. It's not like you would use it for a first name.

Mildred is what you make of it and what it means to you. Since it's a double family name AND you like it, for goodness' sake ignore the silly name books - what do they know about you and your life anyway?I actually know a Mildred who goes by Milly: nothing bad has ever happened to her as a result. I think of it as a name with strength and dignity. And I do enjoy Lucy Mildred!

I wasn't really a fan before, but it has kinda grown on me and I think going w/ the mn on it is wise... though it could have Millie as a nn if you wanted your DD to go by that. I like Eliza Mildred better than Lucy Mildred for multiple reasons:
1) flow is better
2) I just plain prefer Eliza
3) Lucy seems a bit more popular now than it used to be and Eliza's still less commonMildred Kathleen sounds nice if you were to go by her mn. Katelynn Mildred could also work if variations on Katelynn weren't so overused.
I'm sure there are others that would work too, but Eliza Mildred is pretty decent.

Don't believe everything you read. Mildred sounds fabulous in both combinations. The fact that it is a family name is a bonus. :)

I think it sounds like "mildew"... but you should use it if you like it and it's a family name. Don't listen to books :) I like Eliza Mildred better than Lucy Mildred.

I actually have a soft spot for Mildred but I agree with your book that it's better left behind.

I love Mildred! I'd seriously consider using it as a first name, so your desire to use it in the secondary position doesn't disturb me at all.Eliza Mildred and Lucy Mildred are both darling.

I don't think you're at all crazy to consider Mildred as a middle name, especially since it's a family name, and especially since you like it. I wouldn't worry about what the name books say. I think that's exactly what the middle name slot is for, for using a family or honoring name, a name you may like or not like but for one reason or another wouldn't consider using as a first name.

I probably wouldn't use it myself, but it is a name I would like to see on a little girl. I think it is fine as a mn. Both Eliza Mildred and Lucy Mildred are adorable!
