Michelle.
I've suddenly fallen in love with this name. It's my father's-in-law favorite name and we were discussing it yesterday. I love the simplicity of the name and how ordinary it is. My father-in-law loves it because of the Beatles' song, which is even neater to me. (Music is a big part of his life and our life.) I know that most of you are going to think it's boring but I like that. I like the fact that it's both '70s and Valley Girl and middle aged. I like that it will fit in just about everyone she goes (in the US). It's unexpected (to me) in its' commonness. I'm thinking Michelle Fern, Judith Michelle & Michelle Mae.

Michelle is nice. It should be one I really like, it fits my "style" - but I think maybe I just don't go for the Mish sound, or maybe it's the stress on the second syllable? Not sure; there are few 2-syllable names with stress on the second that I really like. I love Shelly, though (and I'd go by Shelly if my name was Michelle). And Mickie is cute. Michelle Fern is a good combo.

Michelle is my mother's name and therefore I will be using it as the middle name for a daughter if I ever have one. I think it's a very pretty name that does sound refreshing now because no little kids are being called Michelle anymore.

I love Michelle. It's so soft and pretty. Michelle Mae is sweet.

It's not a bad name in the least, there are just a lot of French names I love a million times more. Beyond that it bothers me that in the US it is usually MIH-shell and not MEE-shell, but it still sounds nice so it's not all bad. I also find it quite dated, I have not met a Michelle under the age of 20 (although according to the SSA it only slipped out of the top 100 two years ago, never would have guessed). I guess in the end despite all of it's potential drawbacks it is still a beautiful name that deserves to be used.

It's a pretty name. I don't think it's quite ready for revival just yet, but maybe in a few years. It has dropped in popularity enough that a Michelle born these days probably wouldn't have very many classmates with her name though. Michelle Fern and Judith Michelle are both nice combos. I love it when I encounter Fern. It's underused.

It seems very dated to me.

Michelle is not at all boring to me. It does't even sound particularly dated to my ears. Michelle is soft and classy and make me think of pink and purple and bubblegum. I don't care for your combos, though. Michelle Mae is my favorite but I don't like the alliteration.

Michelle is fine. No complaints about it being ordinary. I love ordinary names often. People say all fashion is rebellion. I can see why someone who frequents these boards would be drawn to more ordinary names. It's a rebellion!Michelle Amandine
Michelle Amelie
Michelle Angeline
Michelle Annette
Michelle Beatrix
Michelle Caroline
Michelle Corinne...etc.

Yes, it's boring and ordinary, but if that doesn't bother you, then no problem. I don't see it as simple, though. To me, it's one of those names that is "too pretty" and I hate names that are "too pretty". It's along the lines of Melissa, Alyssa, Clarissa, Marisa, and I would add Michelle---names that practically scream "Look at me, I'm so pretty, aren't I pretty, too bad you can't be as pretty as I am!" These names are just too obvious. There is no subtlety to them. Just pwetty pwetty pwetty aren't they pwetty. They make me want to puke.I've seen both Victoria and Isabella described as "pretty princess names" and I couldn't disagree more with that. One I love and the other I hate, but I don't see either as "pretty princess." Victoria, while beautiful, is strong-sounding, and not weak and wimpy like the ISSA names and Michelle, and Isabella is heavy and clunky, but at least not weak. I think the "pretty princess names" are the ISSA names--and Michelle.

Isabella is pwetty pwetty pwincess to me.Michelle doesn't have that sound to me, probably because all of the women I've known with the name were very strong.
