Spike on a girl
I've just returned home to Maryland, after spending a few days in New York with Jack, as we wanted a little trip after the stress of exams.Anyhow, while we were there, there was a family in our hotel who had a daughter named Spike. I would say she was about seven years old.I can't say I like it.

I actually think Spike is a cute nickname for a boy (I loved Buffy's Spike), but don't like it in any shape or form for a girl. I'm hoping it's a nickname though.

My cousin Lucy used to want to be a boy, and she renamed herself Spike

My sister used to want to be a boy. My parents were slightly concerned, until they learned it was only because she did not want to wear a shirt all the time.

To clarify, she was about six

I really like it as a nickname, but definitely not as a full name!!

DEGRASSI!!Yeeeah! This brings back memories! in the late 80's there was a super low budget, all-Canadian show called "Degrassi" and it was about high school kids and the problems they faced in life. It was really quite edgy for the times - they talked about bullying and abortion and suicide and homosexuality and all kinds of things. And one of the characters was named Spike (I think her real name was Christine) because of her platinum blonde hair, back-combed to within an inch of its life.I'm sorry, I have to like it because it just fills me with warm tingly childhood memories. I'm sure if I stopped to think about rationally, I'd hate it too, but I can't just now.

YES!!I love Degrassi. Have you ever seen The Next Generation? Total guilty pleasure. And, those people are broomheads if they named their daughter Spike!

Spike was great. I think most people on the board would be aware of the series due to Degrassi: The Next Generation in which Spike's daughter, Emma, is now a teen. I haven't watched it myself.

My sister is 10 years younger than me and I watched the original and she watched the next generation! hahahaha!

Spike is only good on a dog. A male one at that.

Yes!Unfortunately I've never seen Degrassi, so whenever I hear Spike I immediately think of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"! :-)
