How would you pronounce Melia? What do you think of this name?

The tree sounds like MEE lee uh; also known as the Persian lilac. Beautifully fragrant little mauve flowers, followed by plump golden berries - which birds find very attractive, which is why it's classified as an Invasive Alien where I live and must be destroyed ... As a human name, I'm not keen. Sounds and looks as if it's moulted an initial A.

I pronounce it MEEL-yə. It's decent, but I prefer Amelia. I'm the same way when it comes to Delia (I prefer Cordelia and Adelia). Both Melia and Delia seem like they're not quite substantial enough. They're a little too sticky sweet and childlike for me.

I'd say MEH-lee-uh. I like it, but I prefer Melena, Melana, Melisande, and Meliora; maybe with Melia as a nn.

I know a Melia who pronounces it Meh(as in met)-LEE-uh and a Meliah who pronounces it MELL-ee-uh, but I still look at Melia and pronounce it like Amelia without the "A". The first is the prettiest, imo. I like it, but I think a Melia would have to lay down the pronounciation laws big time.

I pronounce it MEE-lee-ah, like Amelia without the a. I think it's quite pretty, and I like the mythological and botanical connections.

Yeah, it's pretty but something about it is lacking.
