Ethan
What is the concensus on the name Ethan? Is it too popular? (I live in the UK, where is is number 13)If his Dad was called Nathan, would you consider Ethan to be too similar?Do you prefer Ethan or Evan?

I love the name Ethan and DH and I considered it as a mn for our DS. It gets used fairly often here in Australia, but I don't hear/meet little Ethans everywhere. I think Nathan and Ethan, while very similar in sound, wouldn't be too much of an issue. I much prefer Ethan to Evan.

1. It is too popular for me to use it. I believe it's in the top ten in the US and rising, if I'm not mistaken.2. I think Nathan and Ethan are very similar. I wouldn't use it unless you were somehow honoring.3. I prefer Ethan to Evan. I don't have anything against Ethan, except for the popularity.

Personally, I really like the name Ethan.Yes, it is kind of popular, but you really loved it and it was your favorite name, I don't see why you wouldn't use your favorite name even if it is popular. No, that's not to close. If his brother was Nathan, then that would be a different story...I definitely prefer Ethan.

Ethan remind me of ethane gas, but I like the Hebrew version Eitan.
I do like Nathan though, and don't really think Ethan is too similar.
Evan in my view is a much much more attractive name than Ethan.

Ethan is the 2nd most popular boys' name in the US, which makes it WAAAYYYY to popular to use, imo.
Evan is #36, so still too popular for me.
I have a friend Kasie who has an Evan and an Ethan, and she says she regrets naming them names so similar and so popular.
I also think Ethan is too close to Nathan.

I live in the UK. It's number 13 here, so not to bad although still popular. I've never met an Ethan though, of any age!

I don't really like it. It's very common, but still only makes me think of Ethan Hawke (I don't like him much). I don't think that Nathan and Ethan are too similar. I think it would even honor him a bit and be nice. Plus he'd always be dad or grandpa anyway.Evan is feminine to me because I grew up with a female Evan. I always thought it was a variant of Eve and Eva and it never occured to me it could be a boys name.I would say I like Evan and Ethan about the same.

Not sure about the concensus, but I personally dislike it. I don't like the sound of it and it feels weak and trendy.I would say Nathan and Ethan are too similar for brothers, but for a father and son I wouldn't care. Some sons have the exact same name as their father, so meh.I WAY prefer Evan. Love it. It's also a family name for me going back lots of generations.
