Thoughts? Which spelling do you prefer? I have purged about half of my male list so I'm looking for some good new names to add, and Tiernan has been on my mind lately. I'm a little surprised that it isn't even in the U.S. Top 1000 given the popularity boom of other Celtic names (Aidan, Ronan, etc).

I like it. I'd use Tiernan here in the States. Tiarnán would be more likely to be misspelled and mispronounced.

I was a bigger fan as a kid, kind of lost interest in it. Not a bad name, though. I like both spellings equally, but would probably use Tiernan just so it would be pronounced correctly.

I like it. Tiernan might sound a little feminine because of its similarity to Tierney (which I've seen on a few U.S. girls), so maybe that's why it isn't as popular as Aidan etc.

I've liked Tiernan since I first saw it, and I prefer the spelling I've used here.

I'm surprised it's not more popular too. Maybe it's too reminiscent of tears and tyranny to have wide-spread appeal? Anyway, I like it, and I prefer the Tiernan spelling.

The tyranny connection came up when Tierny was mentioned earlier this month. I can see why that might be a problem for some people, but I think it's less of an issue with Tiernan. (I also prefer that spelling).
