Opinions on Alba
A friend mentioned a new baby she knew by the name of Alba and I fell in love with it all over again. But is it too close to my DD's name Calla? I've got a poll up but it's too close to call just now. What about as a middle name with some of the combos I'm playing with?Iris Winter Alba
Iris Boheme AlbaThanks in advance

Love! Reminds me of one of my favourite books/movies, The Time Traveler's Wife. I don't think Calla and Alba are too close; I actually think they're sweet together. I like both your combos but I have to go with Iris Winter Alba as Winter is a love of mine. Hopefully your partner is cool with word names, hehe.
Eta: I tend to pronounce Calla like Callie with an a - not sure if you do, though.

He was ok with my DD's name which also has 2 word names. lolCalla is prn Cahl-ah, so yeah, like Callie with an a.

I'm not a big fan of Alba, but it's not a bad name. However, it's way too close to Calla. I keep turning them into Calba in my head.It would be fine as a middle name, though. Iris Winter Alba is nice (though I'd prefer just Iris Alba).

I like Alba, but I like Alma and Alva more.

It's pretty in a slightly dark way. I like the shape and the sound of it, it works nicely in the combos, and although it is quite close to Calla visually and aurally, I think it's quite complimentary. And the Scottish link is nice.Having said all that though, I still want to stick Tross on the end of it!

My personal opinion on Alba is that I bet I'd like it a lot more if my first thought wasn't of Jessica Alba! But anyways. I don't think Calla & Alba are too similar, but they do echo each other a bit too much for my liking. They bleed into each other or something. I want to say "Calba" not "Calla & Alba" you know?I like both of those middle-name combos a lot. Iris Boheme Alba is superfun!

I don't think Alba is too close to Calla. I don't especially like Alba as it makes me think of albatross! I love Iris but I don't particularly like either of the combos you have. Iris Winter Alba is too flowery for me - it actually sounds like a type of iris flower. Boheme doesn't sound like a proper name to me sorry.

I love it, love it, love it, love it.It's such a gorgeous name. I like Iris Winter Alba but I don't think that Alba & Calla are too close to use, although they seem like very different styles to me.

I can't find a name in the style of Calla that I like. I'd love to, it's so perfect, but it's so hard to find something that works as well. What name would be similar in style IYO?

I think Iris and Sonnet, maybe even Jenna, come the closest in style to Calla, I'm unsure exactly why. Calla somehow manages to be feminine, crisp/smooth and mysterious in one fell swoop.

Can't use Jenna, my cousin's name, and I don't like.
Like Sonnet as a middle name.

Lumi is one of my top names, but not sure if I'm brave enough to use it if we leave Finland which might be on the cards soon. Love Wren, but too close to Finn. Not sure if Juno works with surname, but have Juna and Junia on my list. Love Beata, but it's a bit too heavy for me. Rain is DD's middle name so can't use Raina. Seren is lovely but don't like it with surname. Alma seems old ladyish to me, while Alba doesn't.
Thanks.

I looooooove Alba so much!
I don't think it's that close to Calla, though I don't know that I'd use them together myself. I really dislike Winter and *especially* Boheme and I totally think they bring down Iris (my #1 girl name) and Alba (easily in my top 5)Iris Leonor Alba
Iris Alba Leire
... I don't know, just not Boheme. I'd take Winter over Boheme for sure, but imo, all are too wordy together.

Boheme is a GP I'll probably never get past DP, but I'm playing with it at the moment. I tend to lean towards word names, so it's kind of unavoidable. I love your Iris combos, but they aren't me. thanks though. Do you think Iris Alba works, I can't decide?

I think it does.:-DI wish I could get Alba or Alma past my husband, but it will never happen.

I think Alba and Calla are probably too close, but it wouldn't be a big deal if you used Alba in the middle name slot. Iris Winter Alba is pretty.

I like Alba quite a bit. Not enough to love it, but almost. It may be too close to your daughter's name, but not necessarily. If you pronounce Calla's name as CALE-ah and Alba as AHL-bah then it isn't. If Calla is CAHL-ah and Alba is AHL-bah then it is too close. However, if Calla is CAHL-ah and Alba is ALE-bah then it isn't. Confusing, but that's my two cents.I love Iris Winter Alba. I don't love Iris Boheme Alba (although I do like it) because the B sound is so strong. Although give me a second and I may come to love Iris Boheme Alba. I kind of like the strong B sound now.

It's Cahl-ah and Al-bah or Al-ah-bah. So probably too close then. Thanks.

It's too heavy for my taste. I've never liked the "-ba" sound at all. One of my friends named her baby this several years ago, and most of our shared acquaintances were like "what?!" No one really understood, including me.
