Brenna.

The sounds of Brenna are far warmer and more appealing to my ear than are the sounds of Keeley. I used to know a nice Boxer by the name, Brenna.

Thanks everyone for all your feedback! I'm leaning towards Brenna, I've always had it as one of my top five girl names.

BrennaI think Keeley can actually sound rather juvenile, whereas Brenna can belong on a little girl and an adult.

I much prefer Brenna. Honestly, I don't understand why so many people find Keel(e)y appealing. Kaylee, at least, has a pleasant sound. I also find Kylie easier on the ear than Keeley. Keeeee-leeeee. It's screechy and grating. Of course, it's just personal taste; there are names I find beautiful that most everyone else thinks are hideous. As far as usage, though, I'd just consider the mega-popularity of the whole Kaylee/Braylee/Briley/Kylie/Riley/Jaylynn/Shaylynn etc. phenomenon, because Keeley fits right in there.

Keeley, for sure.

Brenna sounds more pleasing to my ear and seems more substantial (less trendy, would age better).

I prefer Brenna. I like it. It sounds modern, but also sweet and simple without being boring.I want to like Keeley more than I do. I prefer the spelling Keely, but even then, the sound of it doesn't appeal to me all that much. My mouth feels a bit funny when I say the name out loud.

Keeley...I just want to add a n to Brenna due to a road.

I like Keeley a lot better. I also like Keely. Brenna just reminds me of Brenda. I remember back in the late 90s when I was only about 11, Brenna was everywhere. I don't know if it was actually used much but everyone was talking about it. It seems late 90s dated to me.

There was a time, about 20 years ago, when Keely (this spelling) was my #1 name for a girl. These days, though, I'd be more likely to choose Brenna. I'll never dislike Keely, but I think it's too similar to too many other names, such as Kaylee and Kylie, to stand out and have much personality of its own. Keely sounds like just another verse of the same old song, you know?

ditto all of thisI couldn't agree more!

Spell it KeelyKeeley is such a pain. As a teacher I had heaps of Keely's and now I have 2 Keely's and 2 Keeley's and its so frustrating!!

That is so weird because neither version is in the top 1000 now and the highest it ever was was number 400-something.

She's in Australia

Ahhh ok :) I mean it's always possible. Sometimes names are really popular in one place only. I remember someone here once said her son had two girls named Athena in his class.

Keely is super popular here, I have probably around 10 Keely's. Australia has a love of Irish names names like: Lachlan, Liam, Rory Angus, Hamish, Oscar, Keely, Ciara etc. are all very popular here!

Wow. Didn't know that :P I lived in Australia but I just met thousands of Chloes and Hayleys. It's not in the top 100 right now in Australia but I guess it was more common 10 years ago or so? It's always interesting to see which names are popular in other countries. And yeah I met many boys named Hamish!

I have no Hayley's at all. I don't think i've had a Hayley in years! I've got 1 Chloe.

I love Brenna! It's pretty, simple, and it isn't common but it doesn't sound unusual at all. It's also mature and sweet. Keeley is cool in its own way, but Brenna is more my style. Keeley is a bit trendier and I'd expect a Keeley to be more of a partier.

Ha, I like this reply, thanks!

(chants) Bren-na, Bren-na, Bren-na!!I don't really know how to describe this, but I feel like there is a category of names that all sound sing-songy, door-bell-y, etc. Names like Kaleigh, Haley, Bailey and all such rhyming variants fit into that category. Same sith Aiden, Jayden, Caden, etc. And same with Keeley. To me, the feel cutesy, trendy, overused, and annoying. Brenna on the other hand is intriguing. Similar to the more common Jenna. But still different. A little like Brynn, but more feminine. I definitely vote for Brenna.

Laura Wattenberg (author of The Baby Name Wizard) calls these names "Bell Tones." She even has a chart in the book with syllables to assemble your own. I call them "syllable kit" names. Or just "trendy crap." ;)

I have always thought of names like this as syllables stuck together, I'm going to have to start using "syllable kit"! :)

Complete ditto.Keeley is childish and silly and sounds like a random jumble of popular syllables rather than an actual person name.Brenna is lovely. So spunky.

Nah, I kind of know what you mean. I somehow feel that Keeley is ever so slightly different, I guess because you rarely hear it on an actual person. I think it's spunky. But I don't like that it can be lumped in with Kayleigh, Kylie, etc... which seem too common/overused.
