My friend maintains that Jericho is a good name for a girl, and I'm starting to like it. Any opinions?

I rather think that falling wall jokes would get old too quickly; and I suspect that Jericho used to be used as a euphemism for hell: Go to Jericho!
That said, I spotted a woman named Bethlehem the other day - in the new National Geographic, I think. So these things do happen; but there must be other ways of obtaining a daughter known as Jerry.

Considering the fact that Jesus' birthplace is nearly always Bethlehem, the religious connotations and existence of names like Belén, that people have named their children Bethlehem is not surprising. A Gomorrah or Gehenna, given, would be weird, but Bethlehem being so tied to the nativity means that certain groups are obviously going to consider it as a namesake.
I... don't think there will be many falling wall jokes? Not making this personal, I hope, but....eh...how? "Oh, lol, Jericho, you're like the falling wall"? No, I don't see it working in the slightest. Also given the increasingly secular world we live in, comments like that look increasingly incongruous, and make of it what you will, but I suspect the odd kid making Biblical references based on strangers' names is more likely to be ostracized than a trendily named Jericho. I mean...Biblical name teasing? Can't buy that in today's world in the slightest, sorry. By your logic, all Eves and Adams would get apple jokes, and apple-innuendos are and always have been ten a penny in many European cultures at the very least... but unsurprisingly, I've never known that to happen.
Back to topic... yes, Jericho is a) cool looking and b) cool sounding. Do I like it as a name? No. Not at all. On a boy it's established, but try-hard, ultra-trendy and predictable. On a girl, it transcends tacky into some weird world of ultra-tack.
Sorry to both parties. I don't mean to offend anyone. But you know, Jericho has all the qualities of a cool name, but for me will never be anything more than trying too hard...

I totally agree with the assertion that Jericho would not get teased with Biblical jokes, but as an Eden, I would like to confirm that jokes relating to popular and well known Biblical tales are still quite rampant, usually in the form of pick up lines ;) the story of Jericho is rather obscure in my opinion, and probably wouldn't be familiar to a small child attempting to assault someone over their name.

If one MUST, I prefer it be left on a boy... Though I'm not inlined to use that as a name for a person in the first place.

No, not for a girl! Jericho is a great name...for a boy! Seriously, I see nothing feminine about this name at all. :(

I like it for both a boy and girl. It's unique, but still classically biblical enough that it works in real life.
