Thoughts on Alba
I seem to get a mixed response about Alba. It seems to be either a love or a hate name. For me it sounds fresh and light but still substantial and strong. What are your opinions on the name. Whether you love or hate it what makes you feel that way about it? What would you expect a girl with this name to look like? What would you think if you met an Alba? Does it age well? Also any mn suggestions?

I'm in the "love" camp. Umm I just love how it... looks and sounds. Seems really stately.
I don't have many expectations about it lookswise? Maybe blond and stern
I would be jealous of an Alba that I met
I think it ages perfectlyUmmm

I really don't know how I feel about it! I can imagine it working on a little girl, because it fits the four-letter-ending-in-A pattern of so many common names (Lyla, Emma, Anna, Aria, Isla, Cara...) but for some reason it sounds more old fashioned. I would be pleased to meet a young Alba, but also somewhat surprised!Alba Josephine

It's okay, but it makes me think of the word "bulb". Alma is much softer and prettier.

I'm not very keen on the way it sounds, and it doesn't sound youthful to me.

When I first came across this name, when reading The Time Traveler's Wife, I didn't like it, however over the past year it has gradually become more appealing. I still don't love the name but I don't hate it.Alba Charlotte

I really like it, but then the other day i put a cd on and boticed that the cd player brand was ALBA. Despite that, I think it's a nice name, and I love the meaning.

Reminds me of Jessica Alba.

I like it in theory, but don't like the way there are two pronunciations for it. In Europe, it sounds classy--Ahl-ba. But in the US, pronounced Al-ba, as in Albert, it sounds very frumpy. So if you live in a place where the Ahl-ba pronunciation would be used, then I really quite like it.

My first thought is Jessica Alba. My second thought is that someone saying Alma when they have a cold. And my third thought is that old Napoleon palindrome quote: "Able was I ere I saw Elba." I just don't like it, and I can't picture a child named this - maybe an old lady.

Yes, Alba would age well. In fact it brings to mind a short, dumpy middle-aged woman whose dark hair is frowzy and who wears mismatched tops and skirts, with old-style nurses' shoes to complete the look.Because of these images, I just can't like Alba, even though on the face of it, it might have appeal as a name along the lines of Elsa or Alma.

I don't love it or hate it, it's just sort of "there." I'd give it a 5.I'd expect an Alba to have dark hair and eyes, and yes, I think it ages well. I can easily picture it on a little girl OR a grown woman. Some combo suggestions:Alba Josephine
Alba Magdalene

My first thought is "Jessica Alba," so I associate it with a last name. I'm not big on the last-name-as-first-name trend, so it's not really my style. It also makes me think "Albany." I want to add that "-ny" to the end, but that's probably just me. :)

I think Alba is very pretty and unique! If you like it, then go for it! I think once the person knows what Alba means, they'll like it, too!
What do you think of Fiamma? (Look up Fiammetta)
