Flavia
Do you have any thoughts on the name Flavia? How would you pronounce it? I've heard both FLAH-vee-ah and FLAY-vee-ah but I prefer the former.

I love the name Flavia! I pronounce it FLAH-vee-ah (with the 'a' as in 'car'; I wasn't sure if you meant it with a short 'a' like how Americans pronounce it, or a longer 'a', like how I pronounce it in my native Aussie accent), because that's more similar to how the Ancient Romans would've pronounced it (except they would've pronounced the 'v' as a 'w'). Plus it sounds nicer than FLAY-vee-ah, which just reminds me of 'flaying' people.

FLAV- with the AV like in Lavender.I think FLAH- sounds too breathy and ridiculous.
FLAY- sounds alright to me, but it's sort of wrong, and sounds like flavor. So, I guess not.I think it's less nice than, say, Lydia, Livia, Julia, Patricia, Claudia, Emilia, Cassia, Junia, Sophia, Victoria, Valeria. And it is nicer than, say, Euphemia, Nydia, Tullia, Hypatia. It's about equally as nice and as ugly as Olympia.

I used to know a gal with Favia as a middle name, pronounced the "FLAY-vee-uh" way. Never have cared for it.

I really dislike it, unfortunately. It makes me think of Fava beans, but god knows why cos we don't even call them fava beans here, and so it's a very 'beany' name to me. It has a beany image in my mind. Again, not even fava/broad beans themselves, but, like, tinned baked beans for some reason, the Heinz variety. I guess that fits with the 'bean' association my mind sticks with it. Not the most elegant of associations.I also think it looks and sounds unpleasant. I've heard the decidedly icky Flay-vee-ah, which has the nasty 'flay' connotation, more than Flah-vee-ah but I don't like either.

It's beautiful and mysterious sounding. I've only heard it pronounced FLAH-vee-ah. I don't think I like FLAY-vee-ah.
