I really like Melina (if you're saying meh-LEE-nah)! It would be a sweet way to honor a Melinda. I also love Milena (mee-LEH-nah or mih-LAY-nah).

I think it's pretty. I also like Melinda, but Melina has more charisma. I think it works as an honoring name.

Melina is sweet; definitely don't hear/see it often at all and have never met one. I think I do still prefer Melinda. If I were wanting to honor someone as close to me as my mom, I would just make sure *she* thinks of a similar name, rather than her actual name, as an honor.

I was just thinking about the combo Melina Zoe / Zoe Melina yesterday. :-)I fell in love with the name Melina from watching old Melina Mercouri movies from the 1960s. She makes a husky voice and heavy eye-liner go a long, long way. I associate Melina with her exuberant personality. The "honey sweet" meaning is lovely. Go for it!

I think Melina is nice. I know two girls with this name, so it isn't super popular, at least not here. I like honoring names, but I also think that honoring names should be the exact name (except honoring an Alexander by using Alexandra, or Michael instead of Michaela). So if you want to honor your mother, I recommend using Melinda instead. :)
