Zelda
This used to be one of my favorites. Then I rewatched 'Pet Sematary' (sic) and the creepy sister who is depicted as evil in the movie (which I heard she wasn't in the book) is named Zelda. She scared the hell out of me. I then never considered this name again but it is slowly growing on me and, associations aside, it's a really nice name. I also like Zellie as a nickname. What do you think of Zelda?

Can't shake the video game association. Sorry. It also makes me think of my aunt's now deceased dog. I have a hard time associating it w/ a real person.

I think of Aunt Zelda from Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Legend of Zelda before Pet Cemetery. But then, I'm not a Steven King fan. It sounds like it belongs in fiction more than real life, but there are a lot worse names.

I adore Zelda! It's zippy and zanily dignified.

Zelda isn't evil in the book OR the movie, that I know of. She was sick and decaying and scary to her sister, but I don't remember her being evil.I like it because of Zelda Fitzgerald, who was a spitfire. Replace that creepy image with the free-wheeling flapper one Fitzgerald provides, and you'll be good. :)

It just makes me think of the video games, but I think it's pretty and distinctive enough that people would very much come to identify it with the individual rather than the game if they got to know her. Zellie sounds like a strangely affectionate term zealots by other religious persons... "Oh, you'll have to ignore some of what Bob here says, he can be such a zellie." (this may be influenced by a book series I really enjoy)

Zelda was my nn in college. I picked it for myself thinking it would never stick. It was the only one of the group which stuck through four years. Some people knew me only as Zelda. I loved it.Zelda is cool and vampy and awkwardly beautiful. Zellie is a darling nn. I have a soft spot for the formal Griselda too, but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea.I heard a few years back that Keira Knightly had signed on to star in a biopic about F. Scott FitzGerald's wife, Zelda. But I haven't heard anything about it since then. I was hoping it would popularize the name, or at least give it a different association than the video game and now apparently a character in "Pet Sematary" (sic). Zelda Marion / Miriam / Maryam / Mary
Zelda Ruby
Zelda Frances
Zelda Lenore
Zelda Kirsten
Zelda Margot / Margaret / Marjorie
Zelda Vivien
Zelda Artemis

Zelda Morrigan ("mor-EE-gan")
Zelda Ruth
Zelda Imogen
Zelda Rhiannon
Zelda Gwyneth

I never really liked the name until the past couple years after meeting my friend's grandmother, who is a wonderfully strong and compassionate woman, and hearing her sisters use her name many times over the week Ivisited them. Zelda sort of stuck in my head after that and I added it to my favorite Z names / guilty pleasures. I wouldn't use it unless it was to honor someone and then probably just as a middle name. My dad and brother are gamers so Zelda is associated with Ledged Of Zelda and I'd probably get teased by them.Zelda is a strong and regal name. Zellie makes a very cute nickname!

My dad let us watch that movie when I was like 7. My mom is still mad at him for it. I had nightmares for years. I think I know what sister you're talking about, and she was by far the scariest part to me. I don't remember her name being Zelda though, I thought it was Rachel. Maybe that's the other sister. Or I remember wrong. Either way, I don't associate Zelda with it at all. I only associate Zelda with the video game, and, while a good association, I think it's so strong that it makes Zelda pretty unusable. It really doesn't even seem like a real name to me, it's a video game character.Zella, on the other hand, I think is pretty. It was my great-grandma's name.

Rachel was Zelda's little sister, the wife of the main character.
