Sibyl
What spelling do you prefer for Sibyl? I think I'm partial to this spelling. Is it too much S in a subset with Sage and Cyrus? My husband agreed to liking the name last night but thinks it may be too much S. Any combo ideas? Do you like Sibyl?

It is a bit s-heavy; might you consider Sibylla instead? That way you avoid the emphasis falling on the S-.

Yeah, it's a little S-heavy, but so what? They're all lovely names in an of themselves. That's all that matters.I prefer Sibyl. It's clunky and dowdy, but adorable. Two thumbs up.

It makes me think of Sybil from Fawlty Towers! She was a rather horrible character so it puts me off the name! "BASIL!! "

Hmm never heard of this. I can't stands the actress that played Cybil in the old tv show, but I never watched that either.

Oh, but the actress who played the part is Prunella Scales. Prunella! Doesn't that make you warm to her character, just a bit? Besides, Basil deserved everything he got -- and loved it. :-)

Sorry but I can't stand the name Prunella either! Makes me think of prunes...

I love Sibyl. It's strong, feminine without being fussy and has a mythological connection. Perfect. Sensible shoes chic.Personally I use the Sibyl spelling because that's how the noun sibyl is spelled. I think the Sybil spelling is due to confusion with Sylvia. "Sibyl, Sage and Cyrus" is "s" heavy. But I love Sibyl and Cyrus so much I don't care. :-) By the way, I've surprised myself and recently learned to love the name Saga on a girl. Sage is too popular right now. I don't suppose I could interest you in Sibyl, Saga and Cyrus?Sibyl Minerva

Sage is already here and 3 years old. It doesn't seem too popular. I only know of one other. Cyrus is in the world too. He's 1. I'm hoping to add another to the world soon:)

*blushes* Of course. I don't know what I was thinking. . . . Well, isn't it nice to know everyone is naming their Sage's after yours? :-) (~~crawls away~~)

Well it's 461 on this site so while it's risen in popularity, I don't think it will ever be the next Emily or Ava. I would think my location would be more likely to have Sages since we have many outdoorsy folks and hippies, but I still don't see it often. It's rather an honoring name since it's what my Dad wanted to name me so I think I would have still used it even if it was a bit more popular.

Definitely keep Sibyl as a name. Unless you're planning to have at least two more kids without the S sound then I believe you should stick with Sibyl. Personally I prefer the spelling Sybil, but since its such an uncommon name, I doubt people will confuse it with the other spelling much. Sibyl Clementine
Sibyl Fiona
Sibyl Louisa
Sibyl Carys
Sibyl Maeve
Sibyl Josephine
Sibyl Genevieve
Sibyl Penelope
Sibyl Matilda
Sibyl Adelaide
Sibyl Vivienne
Sibyl Georgina
Sibyl AnnelieseHope this helps!

I'm not a huge fan of siblings all sharing same letters, or even sounds, but Sage, Cyrus and Sibyl aren't that bad, especially when you've got the C spelling in there to shake it up. I prefer the spelling Sybil, but not with a brother named Cyrus. Sibyl works better. I do like Sybil / Sibyl. I've liked it for a while, but have to admit my opinion went up when the nicest, most admirable daughter in Downton Abbey was named that. Sybilla or Sibylla are nice too, though a touch more Germanic sounding. Sibyl Alexandra is about the only combo I can think of right now. Maybe Sibyl Marguerite?

Yes, the Downton character made it seem more usable to me but I also don't want people asking if she's named for Downton Abbey.
