It's pretty but I find it gloomy somehow - maybe it's the Tennyson poem. Marianne seems brighter and livelier.

I love Mariana! It's romantic and feminine without being insubstantial (unlike, for example, Liliana).

It works in languages other than English ... but it never seems to have acclimatised in the way that Marianne has.

I really like it. I've contemplated using it to loosely honor all of the Marys and Anns (and even a couple Mary Anns) in my family.

Mariana is nice enough although it does remind me of marinara and that kind of turns me off. Also, Mary Ann / Anne just seems so dated that Mariana is guilty by association. Make sense? It does sound lovely. I just can't shake my associations enough to love the name.
