I personally dislike that Noah is getting so popular. I like Noa for a girl way better and I think it's not very practical to have both Noa and Noah so popular at the some time. That might give some confusion in classrooms in a few years :P Julia and Julian are the only names with more than two syllables. I like the style of short, clear and simple names. I hate to see Tess so popular, because I like it, but I'm sure that now I won't consider using it anymore. On the other hand I'm glad so many girls got a nice name :)I'm very pleased to see Sarah dropped out of the top 20, because having Saar, Sara AND Sarah in the top 20 last year was too much I think. I like Jesse, Ruben, Max, Tess, Isa and Noa best.

Wow, Tess and Finn made a pretty big leap! (I think you may have meant to say something else when you said that Finn was in the top 20 but isn't anymore.)I've never seen Saar before. Is it a nickname for Sarah / Sara?My favorites:
Emma
Julia ;)
Anna
Mila
Eva
Elin --How is this pronounced in Dutch?
Lucas
Milan
Noah
ThomasIck to Jayden among all those lovely names. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

Yes, well spotted. That was Liam :)Elin would be AY-lin in Dutch. Yes, Saar is a shortened variant of Sara. It's pronounced SAH:RH (and Sara is SAH:-rhah, so it's phonetically the first syllable of Sara).Compare:
Floor - Flora
Noor - Nora
Veer - Vera
Roos - Rosa
Daan - Daniël (Daniel)I agree about Jayden and I've got the same feeling about Lynn on the girls side. It just feel out of place.

I generally prefer longer names and would use many of these as nicknames, but for someone else I don't mind short first names. My favorites:Tess
Emma
Julia
Sophie
Eva
Zoë
Noa Bram
Lucas
Thijs
Noah
Stijn While I find them dated it's nice to see Mila and Milan so popular in other countries.

I'm really surprised by the inclusion of Lynn and Jayden! I'm also a little surprised by all the nns in the top 20.

It's common practice to give your child the name you intend to call him/her. Giving your child a formal name with a nickname (for example Elisabeth "Lisa") without the intention of ever really calling her Elisabeth is mostly considered unnecessary. Dutch usually don't care much about formalities and would usually opt for the practical solution of just naming their daughter Lisa as a full name. I guess this is the reason for all the nns in the top 20 :)
